It's that time of year again. Unfortunately, it's time for our favorite fur products to go into storage as the temperatures continue to rise and we move into spring. This may lead some new fur owners to wonder how they can properly store their fur so it is ready for next season. Here are 4 key things to know about storing fur:... 1. Store your furs in a cool dark location ~ Frequent sunlight exposure can damage the quality of your furs. Cooler temperatures are also key. If a fur pelt or garment is stored in a hot location, both the leather and the fur dry out. This can lead to permanent damage. 2. Avoid storing in humid areas of your home ~When exposed to high humidity levels for long periods of time, the fur can lose its natural oils. Some may consider storing furs in their basements as they are naturally cooler. But keep in mind, the humidity levels can vary. 3. Avoid using mothballs or cedar blocks ~ When considering long term storage some may turn to mothballs or cedar blocks to deter pests. But they are not recommended for fur storage as they can cause humidity levels to fluctuate in the storage area. They also come with strong, lasting odors that can be hard to remove. Use lavender packets instead. 4. Allow the fur to breathe. ~ Avoid over filling your storage space. Fur garments are not designed to be compressed. Allow them to "naturally" fill the space. How do you store your furs?

We've definitely had an interesting start to the season here in Central Alberta. We went from a having a good snow base to almost no snow at all, due to an unseasonably warm stretch of above 10C. Then we were plunged into the freezer again with a roughly 30C temperature change almost over night. Tell us, how has your season been so far?... #albertatrapper #alberta #albertawinter #albertawinters #brrr #canada #canadiantrappers #canadawinter #canadianwinter #trappingseason #trapping #trapper #winter #snow #weather #canadianweather #albertaweatheriscrazy #albertaweather
