I get this question often ‘How do I meditateproperly?; I am not sure if I am doing the right way? I would say ‘There’s no right or wrong way to do it! The most important thing is that you are taking that special time to connect with your higher self by quieting your mind!’ There are many forms of meditation available to you; however I am going to write about a few things I follow that I found effective in my years of meditation practice. Although I have tried many dif...ferent types of meditation, I found this suits me the best. I do believe that meditation helps you to tune into the frequency and guidance of the power within you! It reminds you of who you are.the real younot the one you think you are. Meditation has been proven to have many positive effects on our body and mind. Here’s some tips for enjoying meditation, in my opinion: First of all make sure you set 15-20 minutes daily for practice mostly in the morning, as soon as you wake up. Wear loose and comfortable clothing Switch off any distractions & keep an alarms for 15-20 minutes Close your eyes and sit upright keeping your spine straight Your feet can be in the folded position or touching the ground Start focusing on your breath in and out focus anywhere on your nose, throat, chest or abdomen anywhere you feel comfortable Feel free to use calming music if that allows your focus/or listen to a guided meditation Your thoughts will wander away after few minutes, it’s okay Bring your attention back to your breath when that happens without judgement or criticism You can also focus on a neutral sound like the AC or clock clicking etc Some people use some ‘mantra’ that will keep them focus I like this often End your practice with intentions for the day Focus on what you would like to see happening on the day Remind yourself that you will see positive aspects in yourself and others even when life gets challenging End the practice with gratitude and appreciation for the day There you go... you are good to go now to cherish the beautiful day ahead of you. I encourage my clients to have a daily practice to develop grounding. Why wouldn’t you do it when it’s so helpful to you??? Make sure you are doing the practice just to enjoy the time, not for any specific outcome! The outcome and benefits will appear by themselves!! You will be more than surprised! Happy meditating. Sugar Cravings? What are the possible reasons? How can we stop craving for sugar? I am sure you will agree with me that most of us are struggling with sugar cravings I often see that people are heading towards the snack bars especially in the afternoons to get hold of packets of candy or other sugary goodies.... What do you think is happening here? It should be a no brainer to understand that if your diet is mostly consistent of carbohydrates and sugar, the blood sugar imbalances are causing lots of fluctuation and inflammation in your body! What else could it be? Did you know that your brain releases dopamine and other neurochemicals when you consume sugar? Did you know that the excessive spike in dopamine can impact your mood and this may be one of the reasons for the fluctuation in your Mental Health as well? Did you know that even though your neurochemistry is seriously impacted by sugar intake, it’s your gut bacteria that is causing the cravings due to the Gut Brain Axis connection? Too much intake of sugar and carbohydrates impacts the growth of different strains of gut bacteria and this leads to unnecessary overgrowth of species like Candida leading to all kinds of other health issues! This impact varies from multiple illnesses, gut and mental health issues including fatigue, low energy and hormonal imbalances. Did you know that 90% of Serotonin your feel-good neurotransmitter is made in the GUT and is impacted by your Gut Microbiome! So, what should you do?? Good question, right? Stop consuming artificial and processed sugars immediately. Switch to an anti-inflammatory, healthy, whole food diet. Use healthy sugar substitutes for baking and other purposes like monk fruit, stevia, raw honey etc. Take professional grade probiotics and other vitamins that are needed for your body. Add plenty of healthy fats and take higher grade omega 3 supplements as well. Of course, manage stress well and keep your circadian rhythm for sleep routine.
