It's amazing what a hot cuppa in your favourite mug will do to your ability to slay the day. Yesterday was a rollercoaster day. I'm a goal oriented person, and yesterday was a day when every single goal I've been working towards felt out of reach. I'm training to run four 10k's in 2020, and yesterday's training run was slow, hot and discouraging.... My team is working towards SO MANY personal sales goals right now, and it felt like anything I said or did to encourage them was wrong. In my personal business, it felt like I was MILES behind my goals for the week, on what I consider the last day of the week. Sales, business development...the whole thing. I reached out to my coach and she (in a very supportive and kind way) said SNAP OUT OF IT. I had to dig deep and figure out how to flip my mindset. How to not let my brain play tricks on me and let those feelings of doubt creep in. I put my phone down, went for a quick walk and had a nap. I vowed to put my phone down for the evening and only take care of orders and urgent messages. It felt good, I needed that. I went to bed with clearer thoughts and intentions for the next day. This morning, after a great sweaty workout and a hot cup of coffee, I was ready to switch gears, create opportunities and connect with my team. What do you do to flip your mindset? I wasn't one of those girls that had a life plan at a young age. I knew I would finish high school, go to university, meet someone and blah, blah, blah. But I did not have a specific plan of having kids by 30 (good thing, I had no kids at 30 ) or being married at a certain age, or even what I wanted to do 'when I grow up'. I mean, I went through phases of having ideas; teacher was in there, park planner was in there (to follow in my dad's footsteps), but I can honestly say I... never in all of my years planned to sell makeup. Sometimes opportunities present themselves at strange times. I was at the tail end of my best year yet in my real estate career (again, a job that was never in my plan) and I was feeling frazzled. Pulled in so many directions; showings and offers at all hours, missing out on time with my husband, and my then 1 and 4 year old, getting housework done when I should be sleeping, and having zero time for a social schedule or a fitness routine. I was asked to buy a box of mascara, and instead I bought an entire box of makeup because it was such a great deal. I had no plan to sell makeup. Then I got in to the Facebook groups and messenger chats. I found women from all walks, and yet we all had something in common. Our conversations started over makeup, but would then go to how our kids won't sleep or they drew on the couch. We became friends, sisters on a mission. I was developing a customer base, and loved connecting with women I knew, and some I didn't know. Sharing products I loved, and loved hearing how they felt when they wore it. This box of makeup introduced me to a community of women, it filled my cup, and it help me put things in perspective. Again, not part of the 'plan', I left my real estate job and started part time at a local gym (and finally had a fitness routine again). I was able to spend more time with my now 3 year old, and help in my 7 year old's class. I was able to do the things I learned were really important to me. See more
