Benefits of equine Sports therapy and why it should be included in every horses routine from pasture puff to high level performance horses of any discipline. All horses benefit from Equine Sports therapy, especially when the therapist performs more then just tactile massage, when massage is combined with other modalities it creates an environment where the session can be uniquely tailored to the horses own specific needs, which can make even the most timid of horses become c...onfident in the session. Which for a lot of owners and horse people alike, very much appreciate that-plus it helps break down the physical touch barrier a lot of horses have. I will briefly touch on a few of the benefits of equine sport massage and what I practice as a CESMT. There's many! I could easy talk for hours. First, its increases circulation and acts like a jump start for the lymphatic system as well as circulatory. Flow is very important for the health, longevity and strength of the horse's muscles. Also helps alleviate the build up of lactic acid in the muscles (that pesky substance that makes your muscles ache after a good workout) this is one of the physical benefits of the muscle. * There's techniques used to help break down scar tissues, and adhesions. * decrease chances of muscular atrophy. * improves equine behaviour by reducing pain. * can pinpoint the area of unease and use an array of tools to help solve the issue. * decrease the chances of injury-very important * Helps increase or stabilize range of motion. * Helps body function within optimal range * Increases the connection between human-horse. * Relaxes the brain, releases endorphins, dopamine and other happy hormones. * Creates an environment-specifically for the horse, gives them a chance to be heard and issues to be addressed. * Helps aid in primary care, rehabilitation and horses in stall rest stay healthy. * Reduces stress and tension * Strengthens ligaments and tendons. And many, many more!

Sometimes life and horses overlap. When training or working with a horse such as what I do, or any other equine professional it's more often then not the horse that demands our utmost attention and be in the present reality with them. Not thinking back on previous client's, or things that happened yesterday or being distracted by not finishing the rest of the coffee before my first client in the morning. Ps. I've clearly never done that. But to just be there using all of our... senses. Horses keep helping me more and more, they are definitely quiet mentors but they teach you a lot about how to be fair and patient. And more importantly being clear and working with them on what they need from me. Often I find myself being more humbled by our 4 legged friends. Some sessions with clients are so heart warming, and beautiful that it reminds me why I wanted to be so involved with horses in the first place. What is amazing is how different every session is even with the same horse? I will never stop learning and I find that to be one of the perks. But seeing how everything I learnt comes together to see where the issues stem from is just so-for the lack of a better word, cool!
