Happy 2021! 2020 was a hard year and we have spent the last couple of months getting vegetables harvested and stored for the winter ahead. Having unplugged for the holidays markets start up again on Saturday January 2nd. We will be in Dieppe and Sackville and back to the Moncton Market on the 9th of January.

I want to take a minute to thank our customers and let everyone know how we are doing. First and foremost, thank you to all of our staff and customers. It has been a challenging season but we are doing OK. We have had some great students and other part time help working along with Kevin, Erin, Jesus, and most recently Luis who will be here until December. Despite the seemingly endless rows and fields of carrots to weed, weekly harvests and an ever daunting list of work ahe...ad the crew has been extremely positive and hard working. Our hard work has been worthwhile with great looking crops headed into the fall. Water has percolated to the top of the challenge list of 2020; even surpassing COVID! Despite receiving only 45mm of rain in four months (significantly shy of our 400mm wish list) we managed to irrigate critical crops while the hot weather crops have flourished. We look forward to a great fall of tomatoes and peppers! It has been so hot and dry the beans are almost done The brassicas like broccoli and cauliflower refused to grow, but our irrigation kept everything except the early crops alive and ready to produce during cooler fall weather. Our storage crops, namely carrots, potatoes and beets look exceptional and we look forward to another winter of great quality food. Thankfully we expanded our pond in April and while it is now almost dry, cooler weather and some rain seems to be on the way. "COVID" has made both managing the farm and managing sales challenging. While COVID significantly changed our staffing plan, it has had huge impact on sales. While our Dieppe Saturday market is down almost 45% since January we have made up the sales at the Sackville Farmers' Market, the Friday Dieppe Market, the Dieppe Virtual Market, home deliveries and more retail locations. Somehow we managed to produce and sell 66,000 units of food so far in 2020. The year will be a challenging one with increased costs and lower margins, but, we could not keep farming without the support from our community, both to grow and buy our food. Since my teenage years I wanted to feed people and we are making it happen! Many thanks to all of you who make it possible.

18 May 2020 The problem seems simple: The agriculture and fishing industry are suffering from a massive shortage of trained labourers while there are thousands of people in New Brunswick unemployed and relying on government benefits. Shouldnt we be able to employ these people? Why have these industries had to resort to off shore labour in order to produce products in the first place? It doesnt take long to recognize a few complexities. Here is a look at Natures Route...Continue reading

We are finding more ways to get produce to Sackville!

Nature's Route Farm 16.01.2020

For the first time I am asking people to speak up about government decisions. The decision to close our province to incoming Seasonal Agriculture Workers despite the federal governments push to make this possible defies logic. Speak up! Talk to your MLA and MP, gather support from our community. This should not be a political problem; I am sorry to feel that our government has made it into one. Here is my letter to our MP: Dear Dominic Leblanc,...Continue reading

This seems more like a blog post than a facebook post. I wanted to let everybody know how we are doing: First, our family and staff have been able to stay healthy. We got all of our family home from abroad safely and quickly implemented new systems to protect (y)our food. I hope all of you have managed to adapt to new ways of life and stayed healthy too. At Natures Route Farm winter is a busy time and this one was been particularly busy. Winter is our time to review the ...Continue reading

Nature's Route Farm 04.01.2020

With so many changes and no way to make sales projections it has been difficult to make a plan for the season. Here is our summary: 1. Dieppe Virtual Market - order Monday to Wednesday and pick up on Friday at the Dieppe Market 2. Pop-Up Market - Saturday Sackville - 9am until noon 3. Pop-Up Market - Friday 1541 Mountain Road Moncton. 2:30pm until 5:30pm. Start to be determined; by 16 July 2020.... 4. Saturday Sackville, Moncton and Dieppe Markets as soon as they open to the public. Our CSA. We will change our CSA to a prepaid web-based system that will enable you to choose whatever veggies you want at any of our points of sale except the Dieppe Virtual Market. Pick-up what you want and your purchase will be withdrawn from your credit on the spot by our staff. This includes Sackville and Moncton pop-up markets and Saturday markets when they resume. Here is a link where you are able log in, pay online and monitor your account throughout the season: https://www.naturesroutefarm.ca/en/

Nature's Route Farm 07.11.2019

This Morning. Our test run of selling vegetables in a safe way was overall successful. A few wrinkles to iron out; but, we provided great food for lots of people.

Nature's Route Farm 18.10.2019

Getting ready to be in Sackville. 9am until Noon today. Keep your 2m separation distance from everybody and be patient as we work out the wrinkles. https://naturesroutefarm.ca//covid19-safety-and-pop-up-ma/

Nature's Route Farm 15.10.2019

We have established our protocol! We will be at the virtual market in Dieppe tomorrow afternoon for those who already made their order. We will be in Sackville on Saturday Morning. 9am until noon. https://naturesroutefarm.ca//covid19-safety-and-pop-up-ma/

Nature's Route Farm 05.10.2019

Bad news: Our pop-up shop on Saturday will not happen in Dieppe. Good news: The online market is up! https://marchevirtuel-virtualmarket.square.site//nature/40

Nature's Route Farm 22.09.2019

We are working getting products to the Dieppe Virtual Market on Friday, being in a parking lot in Dieppe on Friday and Saturday and Sackville on Saturday. Here is a list of products we will have: Carrots 2.75lbs Carrots 11lbs Beets 2.75lbs... Rutabaga 2.75lbs Parsnips 1.67lbs Potatoes 8lbs Potatoes 50lbs Sweet Potatoes 2.33lbs Stay tuned!!!

Nature's Route Farm 06.09.2019

With protocols changing by the minute and the necessity for all of us to determine new ways to receive and provide services (including food) it has been difficult to make a plan. Here is our plan to date Immediate. In order to safeguard our workers and maintain vegetable food safety we ask that you do not come to the farm. We are implementing a strict visitor policy to ensure your safety. We will endeavour to provide larger quantities of vegetables to clients through som...e sort of outdoor venue without cash and with a 2m separation between all people. We do not have a location for either Sackville or the greater Moncton/Dieppe area at this time. This looks like a parking lot pick-up with a tap credit card machine, ordering at one door and picking up veggies at the other. Veggies will all be pre-bagged with no capability to make custom orders. We will have: $5 bags of carrots, beets, and rutabaga (2.75lbs) and parsnips (1.67lbs) $10 bags of potatoes (8lbs) $20 bags of carrots (11lbs) $45 bags of potatoes (50lbs) Short Term. We will progress our growing season and continue to provide a wide selection of the best possible vegetables. The leeks, onions and tomatoes are already growing and we are a few weeks away from having spinach. If the markets remain shut we will collaborate with other producers and the Really Local Harvest Cooperative to provide the best and safest service possible. Long Term. With our produce in such high demand and with the uncertainty of global supply and we recognize a need for more locally grown products. We hope that New Brunswicks quick response to this outbreak enables us all to get back to normal healthy lives and that our economy recovers quickly. We plan to grow more vegetables. Period.
