There is an issue here of many departments being responsible for environmental protection but nobody is held accountable says Renata. Over the next week, we need to figure out how we are going to fix this site. But most importantly, we cannot just stop at the... site itself. We need to look at the legislation, regulations, and accountability of the government for environmental protection; protection that is being violated over and over again. Lynn has enhanced the quality of the Nature Trust with her positive attitude and ability to influence positive momentum for conservation within her community. Her selfless dedication to our orga...nization has seen her participate in many cleanups, public awareness events, and conservation campaigns. Lynn is currently spearheading the Conserve Y(our) NB: Protect the Places You Love campaign as one of the campaign co-chairs, working tirelessly to protect New Brunswick’s wildlife and diverse natural spaces so that future generations can continue to explore and create memories in nature. Nestled between the Portobello Creek National Wildlife Area and the Noloqonokek/Nelkwnkek Nature Preserve, lies 170 hectares (420 acres) of forested wetland. We have until September 30th to raise the remaining funds needed to protect this property, forever. This property contains sturdy red maples, sugar maples, scattered mature yellow birch, white ash, green ash, and some scattered Eastern white cedar. Wetlands are rich ecosystems full of diverse plant, animal and insect life. Wetland environments include marshes, wet meadows, treed swamps, and bogs. They provide a unique habitat essential for an abundance of wildlife including the Wood Turtle, the Least Bittern, the Yellow Rail and many more. The Canada Lily, (Lilium canadense), is a species of flower native to Eastern North America. A bright yellow-orange in colour, this perennial lily is tough to miss. Canada lilies thrive in moist wooded areas, wet meadows, marshes, and near streams, brooks and ponds. On July 7th, 2020, a group of volunteers, led by Peter Gadd, completed a thorough ground inspection of the Kingston Family Nature Preserve. The preserve is host to a heavily wooded area, where birds of many varying species were spotted. Some of these included the Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, White-Throated Sparrows, a Northern Parula, and many many more! The ground inspection also determined that there had been no signs of land abuse or alteration due to natural causes.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Maureen Boone has been a key leader of the Friends of Blueberry Hill stewardship group for many years. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and a keen eye for capturing wildlife is inspiring. Maureen is always willing to help whenever she is able, through event promotion, engaging new volunteers, drafting funding applications, leading an outreach booth, or helping monitor the preserve. She has volunteered with the Saint John Naturalists Club for many years as w...ell. Thank you, Maureen, for your environmental stewardship in the Greater Saint John Area, and for your great sense of humour!

The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is a species of Hummingbird, frequently seen throughout New Brunswick. The male has the bright ruby red throat feathers, while the female has a more dull complexion, with more rounded tail feathers as well.
