NAVHDA Toronto Chapter 09.11.2020

The Do's and Don'ts for Wintertime Dakota283 Hello NAVHDA Friends: We know our Dakota family is made up of avid adventurers, hunters, and travelers and we know you face some pretty tough elements out there with your four-footed friend by your side. Here’s some tips to keep your pet protected.... Tip 1: Provide them with the right apparel If your dog comes in contact with harsh hunting and training conditions like sharp briars and freezing waters, you’ll want to make sure they’re well equipped with a quality dog coat and chest protector made from durable, resistant materials like neoprene. In the cooler months, give your pets an extra layer of warmth and protection when out and about especially for short-haired dogs. Tip 2: Wipe paws in the winter Pesky rock salts and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate your animal’s paws. In a cold snap, make sure to wipe down the pads of your pet’s paws with a damp towel after walks. Your dog will try to lick off the salts when they get a chance and this can irritate their mouths too. Tip 3: Keep dogs safe in a sturdy kennel from Dakota Always be sure to bring a kennel you can trust on trips via car or airplane. Our kennels are virtually indestructible and built with the animal in mind. Pets will rest comfortably with spacious interiors and large air holes for ventilation. Small drain holes are drilled into each corner of all of our kennels in order for excess water to escape. This means no more leaks on your wetter hunting trips. Pets are kept safe, sound and dry. Tip 4: Purchase and use a quality insulated kennel cover. In the scope of things they are not that expensive and it will keep your friend warm and cozy on those cold winter nights. Don’t let the sleet, snow, or heavy summer storms stop you from adventuring with your canine companion!
