Many people find it difficult to direct loving-kindness toward themselves. We may feel that we are unworthy, or that its egotistical, or that we shouldnt be h...appy when other people are suffering. So rather than start loving-kindness practice with ourselves, which is traditional, I find it more helpful to start with those we love and care about. One of the beautiful principles of compassion and loving-kindness practices is that we start where it works, where its easiest. We open our heart in the most natural way, then direct our loving-kindness little by little to the areas where its more difficult. Think of someone you care about and love a lot. Then let phrases of good wishes for them come into your mind and heart. Some of the traditional ones are, May you be safe and protected, May you be healthy and strong, and May you be truly happy. Then picture a second person you care about and express the same good wishes and intentions toward them. Next, imagine that these two people whom you love are offering you their loving-kindness. Picture how they look at you with concern and love as they say, May you too be safe and protected. May you be healthy and strong. May you be truly happy. Take in their good wishes. Now turn them toward yourself: May I be safe and protected. May I be healthy and strong. May I be truly happy. Now think of yourself as a beacon, spreading the light of loving-kindness like a lighthouse around your city, around the country, around the world. Think, May all beings far and near, beings in every direction, be held in great loving-kindness. May they be safe and protected. May they be healthy and strong. May they be truly happy. #mindfulness #lovingkindness #compassion #metta #jackkornfield

There is a lot of talk about how to help clients create a transformation in the coaching world. Ive been sitting with this word for a while and something felt wrong. Ive realized its because I dont believe in making people feel they need to change. The belief we need to change gets us stuck in a story that who and how we are, now, is not enough. ... So Im popping on here to say you dont need to change. No transformation is required. You are already perfectly you. In my coaching programme I see my role as accompanying you, sharing this part of the journey, brainstorming with you, sharing my perspective -if youre interested, supporting your motivation and being an encourager as you step more fully into yourself. Maybe that can be seen as change. Please find the language that resonates for you. I just know I dont want to add to the already great social pressure that we live within that we are never enough. What would it feel like if you took the pressure off to be more, do more, have more? What could that free up? And this is really tough work in a society that is constantly encouraging us to buy more, produce more, and not see ours bodies, minds and spirits as constantly requiring improvement. So in short I see my role as supporting you to find the resources already within you and around you to take up your necessary space in the world. Because you are needed just as you are.

Lots of conversations this week on finding and claiming rest. And what rest really means. For me, outside of refreshing sleep, which many of us struggle with, it also means stepping away for a little while from the continuous dialogue in my busy-brain. We are in an age of information overload. Its exhausting. Finding things I can do with my hands that allow me to focus just on that thing is a key component of rest for me. Scheduling it in is key. Otherwise it wont happen.... Today I participated in Matisse with Scissors - a one hour online class with the @londondrawinggroup facilitated by the wonderful @frances.stanfield. It was such fun. No creative experience required. Wishing you rest this weekend and hoping you give yourself permission to make it happen. xx

A reminder that rest is not the reward for the chores and the work. Rest is a necessity in order to keep showing up. So many of us are feeling weary right now. Honour your need for rest and if you find you keep putting it off try scheduling it in your calendar. Its a practice. If youre not used to claiming the time youll probably feel guilty. Do it anyway

A powerful piece about how words matter, and how we need a questioning and critical lens when we read media and other reports of ... well of anything really. "White male power is so assumed as to be wholly indistinguishable from what we simply recognize as power, and with it, the whispered implication that those with authority have somehow earned that authority fairly and squarely, while those who challenge authority and its abuses are wily manipulators"
