Permanency is a hard thing to talk about to young people. They don't fully understand the "aging out" process and what growing up in adulthood is like without s...ome family support especially when they can't rely on their birth family. We have youth who wish they could go back in time and switch their answer to yes to having a family. It's important to keep having these conversations with our youth. They need to have a full understanding of what independent living looks like... it's such a hard transition for young people. I personally believe no youth should ever have to "age out" of the system... How many children grow up and "age out" of their family if they are not in care? None. You don't "age out" of family so why are we expecting our youth in care to age out at 19. We need to do better. We can do better.
