My favourite memory is when I signed my first professional hockey contract with the Boston Bruins in Sept 1968. I attended their training camp in London, Ontario, and two days later during an exhibition game against the New York Rangers, with Gump Worsley in the net, I scored a goal. I played three ...years with the Bruins farm team in Oklahoma City, the Hershey Bears, as well with Dayton Gems, and have many great memories, but that goal against the Rangers is at the top. Do you have a favourite moment in sports? Hey Sports Fans! Over the next few weeks we will be telling you all about the NBSHF’s staff and board’s favourite moments in sports. Read below about our Executive Director, Jamie Wolverton’s fav moment. I have many favourite moments in sport, and although basketball is my all-time favourite sport. In my early teens, I was enthralled and inspired by Michal Jordan’s acrobatics and shooting grace. Yet, my most memorable moment in sport is when the Blue Jays won their fir...st world series in 1992. Several friends were crowded in my tiny dorm room (Neill House, University of New Brunswick). The same situation was repeated up and down the hallway in every room with a TV. It was game 6 of the World Series and in the 11th inning when David Winfield stepped up to bat, the score was tied at two each. Then with a full count, he hit a base hit to the left field and two runners scored. The whole residence erupted with cheers and moments later when the Blue Jays became the first Canadian Major League Team to win the World Series, everyone streamed outside and the crowd of several hundred students spontaneously sang O’ Canada. In reflection, it was likely the first time I was witness to the enormous power of sport.
