In 2019 NCCH took a team of 16 cyclists and 4 support staff to the Jeugdtour - European Cycling Tour of Assen at the end of July. The Jeugdtour is the largest tour of its kind and is held each year in Assen, Netherlands for youth from 10-18 years of age. That was the 55th year of this tour and it boasted more than 800 registrants from 22 different countries. This is a 6 day tour consisting of a Prologue, Criterium race, Classic Road Race, Time Trial, Cobbled Omloop race and... a final Criterium race so it has something for everyone and provides many learning opportunities for all riders. From early roots to the World Tour, we're ablaze to share the news of former NCCH development rider, Ben Perry signing with the Astana Premier Tech Team. "I started with Coach Rick in 2010 and moved to NCCH in 2011/2012. The fundamentals taught in those days helped shape me in many ways on the bike, to the many life skills I learned as well." Ben is the first NCCH rider to reach the World Tour ranks after proving himself with continental teams and immersing in the European cy...cling culture. He's a role model to our riders today that any goal is possible. It begins with a positive attitude, hard work and unwavering commitment to be the best person you can be. Throwback rider this week is Sean Kelly - known as one of the most accomplished one day classics riders of all time and an icon of 80's professional cycling. He established this reputation after winning Paris-Nice 7 straight years, also adding wins at the famed Paris-Roubaix, Milan-San Remo and others. He's also a double bronze medalist at the World Road Championships. A look back at the iconic Canadian, Clara Hughes. First competing in speed skating, Clara took up cycling as a cross training activity that led her to train in Dundas while preparing for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She trained relentlessly on Sydenham Hill where in 2013 a plaque was dedicated to her naming the hill 'Clara's Climb'...Clara is the only athlete in Olympic history to win multiple medals at both the Summer and Winter Games.
