One of our long time employees sisters is battling Leukemia. It has been a very trying time for all family and friends involved. We have made a donation and are challenging all other businesses to do the same! Conrad Elementary School is holding a fundraiser for this amazing girl! Conrad Families, we will be having a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for one of our students, Mackenzii Leask, on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Breakfast will be done in cohorts. As everyone knows, we t...ry hard to make Conrad feel like a family and Kenzii is one of our kids so we would like to support her in any way we can think of as she is going through treatment for Leukemia. All of our students will be part of the breakfast, but we are asking if you can, please donate a twoonie to support TEAM KENZII. You are also welcome to donate more than a twoonie if you would like. Thank you to all those that are helping us to organize this event! #teamkenzii Donations can be made in the following ways: 1) send with your child to the school (or drop off at the school) 2) EMT [email protected] put in the title KENZII 3) through Conrad Elementary School Facebook fundraiser page

The City is grateful to Pembina Pipeline Corporation for funding to support the purchase of un-manned fire nozzles for the Prince Rupert Fire Department. See th...e full press release below : PRESS RELEASE Pembina Pipeline Funds Support Purchase of Unmanned Fire Nozzles The Prince Rupert Fire Department is that much better equipped this year thanks to a grant of over $9,000 from Pembina Pipeline Corporation. The grant allowed the Department to purchase two unmanned fire nozzles, which spray large amounts of water and enable the Department to work more efficiently to address large-scale fires. Since being purchased, the new nozzles have been used in several significant fires, said Chad Cooper, Deputy Fire Chief. They have been a very helpful addition to our toolkit and help to make us overall more efficient and effective at doing our jobs. We are grateful to Pembina for continuing to support our Department. "It's a natural fit for Pembina to support local fire departments since safety and emergency response preparedness are some of our top priorities, not only as an operator but as a member of the community," says Craig Hilton, Manager of Pembina’s Prince Rupert Terminal. He adds that, "having both the right equipment and necessary training makes all the difference for fire departments in our local communities, and we value their commitment to keeping everyone safe. Pembina has also previously provided funds to the City’s Fire Department to support fire safety programming for youth and seniors, which saw the distribution of 72 smoke detectors provided and installed in 2018. It is officially Burn Awareness Week! This year’s theme is Electrical Safety from Amps to Zap (A-Z). So what is an electrical burn you might ask? Brian MacLeod..., Community Relations Officer of Richmond Fire-Rescue, is here to break it down! Thank you to our partners WorkSafeBC and Richmond Fire and Rescue for collaborating on these videos. WorkSafeBC is a generous sponsor of the Burn Fund’s prevention programs. A special shout-out to video producer extraordinaire Chris McKee! Thank you.

I can’t thank the fire department enough for saving those of us around Love Electric. It is going to be a very trying time for all of those that suffered loss and or damage from this not to mention those family’s lively hoods that are directly affected. My thoughts are with Love today...

Keep Halloween Spooky but Safe This Year! The BC Centre for Disease Control has provided some recommendations for how to best have a safe Halloween this year. ...Highlights include: Skipping Halloween parties this year (including Halloweenfest, which has been cancelled this year in advance due to the restriction on public gatherings to no more than 50 people). Instead, celebrate with your favourite Halloween movie or other traditions that you can do with your household or social group. If you have a small gathering, it’s recommended to keep it within your social circle and to have no more than 6 people in attendance Be more outside than inside Don’t share snacks, drinks, or smoking devices And be careful with hand sanitizer around any open flames (we’re looking at you, pumpkins) as hand sanitizer is very flammable Trick or treating is recommended to occur only in small groups, tips include: Respect homes by staying away if the lights are out Leave space between yourself and other groups to reduce crowding on stairs/sidewalks Wash or sanitize your hands before you go out, when you get home, and before eating treats Make plenty of space to hand out treats For handing out treats, use tongs, a baking sheet or make a candy ‘slide’ down your railing to give more space when handing out candy; hand out individual treats instead of from a shared bowl; only hand out sealed, pre-packaged treats; wear a non-medical mask that covers your nose/mouth when handing out treats; and try to stand/sit outside your door to hand out treats Turn off your porch light and stay at home if you’re sick or self isolating Include a non-medical mask or face covering as part of your costume (costume masks shouldn’t be worn over medical masks/face coverings as that may make it difficult to breathe) And, as always, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer often The full list of recommendations from the BC CDC are listed here: http://www.bccdc.ca//covid-19/social-interactions/halloween

Always look while you cook but if... your cooking oil ever catches on fire safely put on a tight fitting lid or cookie sheet, turn off the heat and let it completely cool. See more
