THE INAUGURAL ON-LINE BLACKPOOL DANCE FESTIVAL The words of Daniel Barenboim in his 2006 Reith Lecture, Music has the power to move us beyond mere words. When I heard the familiar sounds of the Empress Orchestra as I was sitting at my computer judging the Inaugural On-Line Blackpool Dance Festival, the emotion of missing The British Open Dance Championships this year became very apparent. It takes an enterprising, perspicacious and adaptable organisation to present this in...augural event so rapidly upon the backdrop of the COVID 19 Pandemic, so many congratulations to The Blackpool Education Competition Consortium for their masterful timing. History was made as the Festival welcomed competitors from all corners of the globe in their Ballrooms, Garages, Sitting Rooms and Conservatories. One touching moment was a Banner headed BLACKPOOL in a sports hall. Of course we know it’s not the real thing, but nothing can dampen the spirit of the Ballroom Dancer and it was totally endearing! Congratulations to everyone who participated and it was a pleasure to watch your joy of dance again! Bravo! The magnificent organising team - The Organiser, Mrs. Natalie Hayes, Managing Director, Mr. Michael Williams, Chairman of Adjudicators, the jovial and friendly Mr. Marcus Hilton MBE, DSI Team, Emma Hawley, Mark Willemite, Scrutineer, Marek Kwiatowski, and Nicky Miles who did a unbelievably good job of organising everyone with their cameras. Remarkable co-ordination All I can say is the spirit of Ballroom Dancing is alive and well! The Winter Gardens awaits, and so do we all Anne Gleave
For those of you that were not able to attend the webinar about life zooming your dancing, here the keynote presentation and some points that were stressed. -The Blackpool Online Festival is held from 24th. August to September 6th -Life streaming through DSI TV -entries through enter2dance.com... -65 judges Points stressed for filming: -Fully charge your device -One device per dancer/couple -No daylight -Full body should be in view -Test everything technical until you got it -Tape it to check -Timing to music is not judged, since there can be delays in streaming -If more than one couple is on the floor in a big studio for example and many couples have entered, every couple has to have there own device and maybe a cameraman to follow them, or a tripod. (If following; that needs to be practiced because it can be very shaky) Crisscrossing each other is fine, just like in a regular comp. In that situation do not all use the studio WIFI but you own G4 network, as this is technically better! -Keep dancing even if the music streaming should happen to fail -Don’t leave the meeting, even if you have a break waiting for callbacks etc. If you have any more questions pm me Good luck too all and have some screenshots taken and send them to me for posting https://www.blackpooldancefestival.com
