Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initative

Every year we host a public release event during with school kids release Nechako White Sturgeon into the Nechako River at Vanderhoof. We were not able to host this public event in 2020 due to COVID-19. Instead we made this short video of the release to share. The Juvenile monitoring program at the NWSCC has come to an end for the season. Here are a few of the juvenile Nechako White Sturgeon caught during the 2020 monitoring season in the seconds before they are released back into the watershed. When juvenile sturgeon are caught, they are placed in a tank of water on the boat while data is collected from them. After the data is collected a staff member immediately releases the sturgeon back into the wild.
