We are able to resume kids classes starting Monday under new strict protocols! The majority of classes will be split into two groups to further reduce class size. Look for an email from the individual instructors.

Wednesday classess ****CANCELLED*** We just received notice in the form of an updated provincial order that we are to suspend activities until we receive operational guidance. We do not know when to expect the guidance but it will likely be soon. In order to avoid any communication delays we have elected to cancel Wednesday's class. We will not cancel this Saturday's grading in hopes that the guidance will be released. If we do not receive guidance by Thursday we will delay the grading. Thanks for your understanding

Sometimes as a karate instructor (or sensei’s, if you will) we forget the level of influence we may have on our students. I honestly didn’t think about it too much until a parent asked me to speak with their child about an issue nonrelated to karate. It wasn’t until then that the full impact of the awesome lessons one absorbs from their instructor hit me. I say this because our club recently lost one of the our original Sensei’s. Dwayne Thompson, was a teacher to myself, my b...rother, my father, my wife, my close friends and hundreds of others. Many of us were taught by him when we started as children right through to adulthood and some may only know him as a referee or invigilator for gradings during his later years. Many of our new students won’t recognize his photo but what they don’t yet understand is that they do know more about Sensei Thompson than they think. There’s that one little spot in your ribs that makes you squeal while your instructor says this is the spot that you will remember for life. Or, a more aggressive method of punching through a partner that we practiced over and over to a Sensei’s gruff count. These are the little memories of fun that we had and as instructors we try to pass on to our students. Many will remember the time lost as Sensei Corrigan demonstrated for the class a move on Sensei Thomson with perfect control. The reply was always now it’s my turn before a full on back and forth sparring match ensued while the students just shrugged and looked on (as it was the norm). If you ever graded under Sensei you will forever have burned in your mind the scowl you received when you drifted from perfection and the attention you received afterwards to help correct your mistakes. Reading back on this, he actually sounds kind of mean but it was very much the opposite and his students knew it. The man volunteered so much time into us and honestly cared about the success of his students and he was proud of us. His students will always remember him and those who now teach will pass on his lessons and in a way he is now immortal (which is super cool). We now have a memorial for Sensei Thompson up in the main dojo which seems like too small a dedication as we can only hope our students look up to us, as we did to him. May you continue to scowl down on us while we grow and help others grow -your students See more

Just a reminder that they're are no classes tonight as we have still not received the required guidance from the Province. We believe we are able to safety (while following the rules) still hold a grading so keep practicing. We should have more information on the grading tomorrow.

Chantelle Grafton had the worst kind of accident leaving her unable to walk or even breathe unassisted, alive as a medical miracle! Not understanding the word quit, she is becoming an instructor in karate at a national level with some help from John A Brink today. Crush it Chantelle!!
