TECH TIP TUESDAY: When cutting through a wall or ceiling to install a vent, the job is not done until the penetration has been properly repaired. This will help to prevent air leakage and related condensation damage that can occur. Approach can vary depending on the venting product used and the region in which it is installed. Check with your building inspection department for local restrictions or requirements regarding insulation and vapor barriers. When installing vent, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s advice on any required air spaces and maintaining clearances-to-combustibles.
