With over 750 acres and more than 60,000 taps we produce more than 75,000 litres of maple syrup every year. Hutchinsons Maple Products is looking for a Food Production Worker at our Maple Syrup bottling facility, located in Lake Paul, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing production, bottling, labeling, inventory, shipping and receiving, under the direction of the owner. LOCAL OPPORTUNITY Department of Fisheries & Oceans at the COLDBROOK Biodiversity Facility has an 8 week casual employment opportunity: 8 weeks this fall with possible re-hire next spring Start date in early to mid-October... Starting salary is $19.10/hour based on 40 hour week (Monday thru Friday 8am-4pm) Background: The job is at the DFO Coldbrook Biodiversity Facility outside Kentville NS. The facility is a live gene bank conservation based hatchery for endangered and threatened stocks of wild Atlantic salmon. Our primary role is to maintain the genetic diversity of the stocks on site and as such work closely with our DFO Genetics unit especially leading up to spawning each fall. The job duties for this 8 week term will include: Fish culture rearing including :feeding fish, fish sampling (length/weights) for growth rates/projections, and scrubbing rearing tanks Monitoring water quality (temperatures, oxygen, flow rates) Tagging, including scale and tissue sampling Assist with sorting adults to determine spawning readiness Assist with spawning activities Assist with egg incubation duties Other general duties related to fish rearing We are looking for an individual that has a keen interest in the outdoors and would enjoy working with wild stocks of Atlantic salmon.
