As part of their Visual Arts class, grade 8 students at Fern Avenue Public School created individual quilt blocks focused on a social justice issue of their choosing. The blocks were pieced together to form a class quilt that reflects their ideals and hopes for improving society. The project was inspired by the work of the Social Justice Sewing Academy. Founded in 2017, SJSA is a youth education program that bridges artistic expression with activism to advocate for social jus...tice. Absolutely impressive and inspiring work done by these students and their teachers. Early school closures didn’t stop them from completing the quilt, thanks to the incredible teacher and Roncy resident Romina Maggi @quiltandteach//@fromaggi who helped make it happen! We are so honoured to display this piece for the graduating students, which you can check out for yourself in the window of @nesthatch. Please help us in congratulating the Fern Avenue PS class and wishing them the very best on the next chapter of their lives! @ Nest + Hatch

Social distancing doesn’t have to mean losses; it’s just an adjustment to how we do things. Granted this photo is showing nothing all us parents have to juggle, like homeschooling, providing 3+ healthy meals/day, and the bottomless sink of dishes. But I’m choosing to focus on the good, like family time together that wouldn’t otherwise be possible and rearranging my entire house. Would appreciate more ideas on what to do next. What activities are you doing?
