This carefree herb has been used traditionally to relive restlessness and I have personally found it very helpful with SAD (seasonal affective disorder). . One of the effects is that it can increases your sensitivity to light, which possibly helps your body to absorb more vitamin D through the dark winter months.... . I only ever grow useful plants... Lucky for me and my drop-dead gorgeous, 'whitchita blue' juniper, I consider these boughs veerrrrry useful. . Perhaps some would look past an upright juniper... Not that I can imagine why. So friend, I am begging you- if you are looking at those poor unfortunate cedar shrubs for some winter interest- get an upright juniper instead. .... I could go on about all of its great qualities, like wind and salt tolerance, polite but steady growth, and bird habitat. But at the end of the day, it could all be summed up in two words. Hubba-hubba. . Sometimes you just need a tree that makes you go weak in the knees. . P.s. these needles will not fall off through the holidays, like many other types of evergreen boughs. We use willows as a living fence (aka fedge) to provide chicken forage and habitat in our chicken run, but there are SO many other uses for the abundant straight sticks that a willow tree provides. . I have always found that natural craft supplies are expensive to buy. Grow your own instead with a living willow fence and a technique called coppicing (and pollarding).
