Did you know there are 2 different types of gum disease? ... The first type of gum disease is call Gingivitis. Gingivitis is swelling in the gums that looks red, puffy and may sometimes bleed! This type of gum disease is reversible and can go away with good oral hygiene habits and regular hygiene appointments! The second type of gum disease is called Periodontitis. This is when the bone that holds your teeth in place is affected by bacteria and it starts to reduce over time. There are different stages of Periodontitis and the symptoms can vary depending on the severity! This gum disease is not reversible and can result in loose, wiggly teeth if left untreated! To help treat periodontitis you need more thorough oral hygiene and more frequent dental hygiene appointments! At New Found Smiles we allot enough time with our patients to take measurements of your gums to help us decide which category you might fall under! From there, we can let you know the best plan of action to help you keep up your best oral hygiene!
