Over the past several months we have been asked frequently if our phone lines are malfunctioning because people are unable to get through to us right away. The truth of the matter is that our phones are in tip top shape but they are ringing off the hook! . This video does a great job of explaining why the Covid-19 pandemic has had vet clinics all over the world busier than ever. The veterinary world has changed so much in the past 6 months and we will continue to evolve as t...he pandemic runs its course. This means a lot of changes for our staff as well as our clients. . We want to thank all of our valued clients for their continued patience and support as we navigate our way through this together. We hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying any extra time they may have at home with their four legged friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCSZ4E_SSfU&feature=youtu.be

Over the past several months we have all experienced an upheaval of our day-to-day routines. Pets have become used to having human contact all day, every day, and with a lot of people now heading back to work pets are having to suddenly face long days alone. This drastic change in routine can lead to separation anxiety. . . Signs of separation anxiety: - Panting, pacing, salivating when owner is preparing to leave home ... - Vocalizing - Destructive behaviour when alone . . Pets at higher risk of separation anxiety: - Senior pets - Newly adopted pets - Pets with existing behavioural issues - Puppies . . What can we do to reduce the likelihood of separation anxiety? - Start slowly changing your daily routine with your pet to mimic what it will be like when you are back to work. For example, if your pet has been enjoying hour long walks every morning while you’ve been home start gradually shortening them to a length that will be attainable when you are back to work. - Start leaving your pet alone at home for short periods of time before you have to go back to work. Gradually increase the length of alone time to prepare them for full days alone when you are back to work. - Provide something positive and stimulating for the pet when you leave the house. Ideally this would be something they only receive when you leave the house. Examples are stuffed, frozen Kong toys or puzzle feeder bowls. Give them something that will take time to finish in order to keep their mind preoccupied while they adjust to being alone. The longer you are away the longer lasting the treat should be. - Try using dog-appeasing pheromones. These come in plug-in diffusers (no scent detectable to humans) or collars for the dogs to wear. . . Taking necessary steps to avoid/treat separation anxiety will make for a happier home for pets and owners alike! .
