Over the last 2 months, we have taken part in business-integrated training with the help of the Nourish Project. This included learning about recipe scaling, pricing and budgeting, whole sale shopping and packaging, and receiving and delivering lunch and catering orders. To help put our learning into practice, we held a lunch delivery at Peterborough Public Health where staff were given the opportunity to place their lunch orders on August 20th, and pick them up from Myrtle’s Kitchen by the week’s end. A big thank you to Peterborough Public Health's social committee and staff, and to Amanda Harrison from the Nourish Project for helping support our first successful attempt at delivering orders.

We've been quiet here on Facebook but busy in the kitchen with our training! Thanks to the Jackson Park-Brookdale team who organised the Aberdeen Avenue community potluck on June 30 for inviting us to be a part of the event.

Building community means providing formal and informal support in a complex web. It includes teaching the skills of looking beyond oneself and into the other p...erson, acting with kindness. It means learning to be thoroughly helpful and inviting others to do the same. Common spaces should not be managed, they are better off thought as forests, places of surprise and complexity where openness to others is practised. #growingcommunity #belonging #workingcentre See more

Hummus and baba ghanoush recipes developed as a group - done! Review of food handling information - done! We've also been working hard on building up our skills in numeracy so that it is easier for us to size up our recipes. So much gratitude to Amanda Harrison from Nourish Project for leading our training and to Matt Faris from Peterborough Public Health for supporting us! Stay tuned for more updates as we move on to the next phase of our training on nutrition.
