Newfound Defensive Arts (Jiu-Jitsu) 02.07.2021

Some great news everyone! Looks like we will be starting up classes again on April 13th. Classes will be on our regular date and time slots. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30. We will be keeping the same protocols which means masks must be worn at all times. Covid screening questions will be in place before class. So excited to get back on the mats. See you all on the 13th!

Good afternoon everyone. As most of us are aware of the Covid situation on the west coast, I unfortunately have to make the decision to suspend classes for next two weeks. I'll revisit the situation at that time and make the decision on whether or not to resume classes before the Christmas break based on what is safest for everyone involved. Sorry for this inconvenience however at least we can see a light at the end if the tunnel. I am optimistic that 2021 will be a better year for Jiu-Jitsu. I'll post any updates here and please stay safe.

Good afternoon. Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. I had a meeting with Vine Place last week in order to discuss the possibility of a return to training. I have been working on a modified curriculum where for the time being we will be focusing primarily on solo striking, fitness and flexibility drills. Unfortunately close quarter grappling skills will have to be restricted for the time being. We discussed safety protocols dealing with issues such as disinfecting mats ...and area before and after class, having access to hand sanitizer, screening students for Covid-19 symptoms and the wearing of face masks. Some gyms are requiring students to wear masks upon arrival and departure from the gym but can remove them during class. I will, for the time being, be taking that a step further by requiring masks to be worn at all times during class. We can reassess this as the situation evolves. I know this may be a deal breaker for some people and I completely understand if students prefer to wait until restrictions loosen up a bit. I will also be monitoring the provincial situation and won't hesitate to close things down again should cases begin to increase. Finally, I would appreciate if students who are interested in a modified return to message me with their up to date contact information such as email and phone number. We will keep this on file if ever a need for contact tracing. Our first class is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th from 5 to 6:30 pm. I hope these changes will be for the short term and we'll eventually be able to return to our normal training routines. Look forward to hearing from you. Stay safe. Sensei Kelly

Good day all. I hope everyone is staying healthy and taking all necessary precautions to minimize exposure to the Novel Coronavirus. We can all do our best to minimize our chances of contracting this illness by practicing the recommended hygiene protocols. However, due to the nature of Jiu-Jitsu training which requires very close contact between participants, I unfortunately have to make the decision to suspend classes until further notice. I didn't reach this decision lightl...y as Jiu-Jitsu is a huge part of my life. However, as I've told my students on numerous occasions, Jiu-Jitsu is not a sprint but a marathon. This time away can be a great chance to recover from any nagging injuries and work on other components of your fitness such as flexibility, strength training, etc... Once again I apologize for this interruption and will keep everyone updated as to when we'll resume classes. Take care and be safe. Sensei Kelly
