Puffins always make me smile. I really feel lucky that I sometimes am granted an up close and personal look at them.

Photographing gannets in foggy weather might sound counterintuitive. Most people don't consider a foggy day beautiful. It does, however, provide an opportunity to do something a little different, and the results can be surprising.

In this time of Photoshop, I often find myself questioning the authenticity of images. Is that real, or is it Photoshop? Then, on days like this, I am reminded that nature is extremely good at producing the unexpected. Today, I went to Cape St. Mary's to photograph the birds. I never expected that I would also be able to photograph a mother fox and her pups. Thank you to the staff for letting me know that the fox was around with her pups. Great day.

I went to Cape St. Mary's this morning to test out some new photography equipment with the birds as my subject. I changed from Canon to Nikon cameras this year and photographing fast moving birds is a good test of how the new gear will perform. I guess it is also a test of how well I perform with the new equipment. It was sunny but very windy, and it was nice to see the birds are back.
