Shirley Anne Scott (AKA Shirl the Purl) is a hand knitter with a love of history. During this time of physical distancing, she is travelling by reading (France with Colette and Three Pines with Louise Penny), singing Moonlight in Vermont to herself, having something constantly simmering on the stove and enjoying the great beauty of Newfoundland. She misses dancing.... "A good hot night out on the dance floor does a person good."

It's been quite a ride this summer for All Hands - we've added an assortment of NL-themed subjects to Wikipedia under various themes including women, folklore, music, theatre, historic buildings, flora, visual art, shipwrecks - wow! We're finishing up next week with a focus on writers and literature with none other than Newfoundland Quarter's Joan Sullivan as our guest editor.

The winner of two Atlantic Book Awards for their memoir Almost Feral (published by Breakwater Books) Gemma M. Hickey has been spending these strange days continuing their work with Artforce NL, reading poetry (Souvankham Thammavongsa) and short stories (Dionne Brand), listening to Chet Baker in bed, and visiting the gym.
