Physical fitness is something that we work on in our programming and is a large part of being an athlete. What’s often less spoken about is the importance mental and emotional wellness in sports. It’s certainly a challenging time for everyone but there’s no question that our children are suffering from a lack of normalcy. Extra curricular activities like our skills academy are excellent for giving kids a chance to develop skills while having fun and getting the opportunity to safely socialize with others their age - something that’s so important in maintaining good mental health. Canadian Christian College is home to our Skills Academy program in Whitby. The brand new, state-of-the-art facility hosts two full sized courts with plenty of space for distanced drills and when we are able, multiple games at once. This year has presented New Horizon Basketball with many unique challenges. It’s been a year full of learning, adapting and growing as we navigated 2020. While programs may have been smaller, one thing has certainly continued to grow - the appreciation we have for our athletes, their families and our coaches. To our athletes, thank you for showing up for each practice with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Nothing makes us happier than seeing our athletes smili...ng on the court and continuing to grow at each session. To our athlete’s families, thank you for your dedication, trust and willingness to adapt to session changes. It means the world. To our coaches, thank you for your dedication to helping each athlete develop and grow as a player. We couldn’t do it without you. Nights are getting colder, days are getting shorter, which means children will be spending more time indoors! With less opportunities (and motivation) to spend time outdoors, keep your child active during the cold months by joining our Indoor Fall Training program! .
