When deciding what to put on the bulletin board, the kids decided they needed a view and wanted it to look like a window. They planned the scene and worked together to create this beautiful mural complete with curtains. #playbasedlearning

Hi Friends! We're hosting a fundraiser on Fri April 3, 7:30pm at Market Brewing. Tickets are $30 and include a free pint of beer, gourmet BBQ, entry to win a brewery tour/tasting for 15ppl and a case of beer from Market Brewing ($300 value), plus there will be a live band and a 50/50 draw! Proceeds will go towards our playground and new classroom furniture!

Over the last few weeks we have been trying to define our core values as a school. Friday night we had our Christmas concert and there could not be a better reflection of the co-op. Parents, grandparents, aunts uncles, siblings and friends came out to celebrate together. Everyone pitched in to help. The kids sang, the parents cheered not only for their own children but for everyone else’s too. All of the teachers were brimming with pride and love for these little people we are so lucky and blessed to spend our days with. As we all reflect on the year wondering if we did enough and thinking of all of the things we wanted to do but ran out of time, we get this note from our lovely President Jen. When working on our playground makeover trying to decide on different surface options, we noticed that by simply removing the clutter, we created a whole new environment for the children to explore! It has created a wonderful, natural space with so many opportunities for learning and meaningful engagement from digging for worms and using real shovels to creating ramps and paths, hills and holes. So instead of planning the space, we will continue to observe how they play and adjust the environment as we watch it evolve and grow! #playbasedlearning #childsplay #naturalplayground

Loose parts play! Imagination, creativity, fun!

Provocations are used to provoke thought, discussion, exploration, interests, creativity and ideas. The introduction of rocks, toothpicks and popsicle sticks incorporated into the play dough inspired the creation of structures, lollipops and mountains!

Bi-weekly visits to the gym for gross motor play! Parachutes, hoops, yoga and games!

- [ ] We just started journals with the kids. Some kids scribble, some draw people, some transcribe stories to us. All of these are encouraging the stages of drawing and pre-reading. - [ ] It enhances your child's motor skills. From a small scribble to a masterpiece that takes pride of place on the fridge, drawing can enhance your child's motor skills from a young age. Starting them as early as possible will help them improve their hand and eye coordination, while fine-tuning their finger muscles.

This week we observed a lot of interest in building using different materials in the classroom. We saw barns for the animals being built with blocks, stones and pine cones as well as a wooden castle that shoots out pies! Parent drop offs often turn into storytime at the co-op!

Charity donations are starting to roll in! It’s a perfect excuse for alumni to come for a visit and bring a donation!

This year the Co-op once again is supporting The LoveTrain Project. If you would like to help us with this charity drive, please drop off any items at the school from now until Dec 14.

It’s starting to look a little bit festive at the Co-op!

Last Friday setup for this lady! As I was setting up, waves of emotion washed over me. I was sad and happy, and confused, and scared.. setting up the children’s environment has been a routine of mine for three years! Wishing all my kiddies the brightest futures, and I hope that they remember their preschool teacher who loves them oh so much!! It has been a pleasure co-op family ... Ps. I will still be running the social media account until further notice, so you’re not really rid of me just yet!

Messy water play- allows children to play organically in a natural environment. The purpose is to create a relationship between child, and nature. By using objects such as troughs, buckets, water, logs, leaves and a spool, the children created a water system for their dinosaurs. They were able to play using their senses, and imaginations ! We had a conversation about how if the buckets weren’t at the bottom of each trough the water wouldn’t be able to be reused... I think the next few activities can be about water supply and water systems? Using mallets and golf tee’s to hammer our tiny ’s. This exercise is great for fine motor development, as well as a safe introduction to everyday objects that can be found around the house.
