The government has announced the new Ontario Small Business Support Grant, which will provide a minimum of $10,000 and up to $20,000 to help small businesses. Businesses required to close or restrict services under the province-wide shutdown will be able to apply for this one-time grant. The Province confirmed earlier today it will move to a 28 day lockdown as of this Saturday (Boxing Day) at 12:01 am until January 23rd. So what does that mean for businesses? To start, all non essential business must do curbside pickup only. Hardware stores and Pet stores are now considered non essential. Big Box stores will stay open but be capped at 25% capacity. Ski hills will close, and resorts, hotels and motels will stay open. Grants and Rebates from the Ontario Government: The Ontario Government’s Main Street Relief Grant is now open to applications. The program provides a one-time grant of up to $1,000 to help businesses in some sectors with the cost of PPE. Businesses that were required to shut down or significantly restrict services due to provincial public health measures can apply for property tax and energy bill rebates, provided in the form of grants, to help with their fixed costs.
