Newmarket Juried Art Show 14.11.2020

Carol Teal, a Newmarket potter (and member of the Pine Tree Potters' Guild) entered this beautiful decorative hanging bowl as her entry into #NJAS2020. She has some interesting things to say about the glazes and textures, and parallels to life. You can read about it, and get her contact information here: https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Carol-Teal/

I've enjoyed featuring the #njas2020 artists over the past few weeks, and today's was the last. Tomorrow morning, on our Facebook page (Newmarketjuriedartshow.ca), there will be two videos giving a tour through the two 3D ArtGateVR gallery rooms. You will see the works in fairly accurate relative size, as if hanging in a large gallery space. You will also hear my comments, and those of the other guests. It's a new technology, and there were some glitches, but | spent some ti...me editing the video so it's fairly smooth. Ground floor, technologically, but quite watchable and interesting. Check it out. @artgatevr #NJASart #ontarioartist #ontarioart #localartist #localart #virtualreality #3d #painting #photography #ceramicart #sculpture #surreal #surrealism #realism #canadianart #canadianartdaily

Today's piece, by artist Kathy Pistor, is one of three lovely acrylics she sent us, featuring the sort of Canadian landscape that yesterday's glass sculpture made me think of. To read Kathy's statement describing the work, and to get her contact information, visit her page on our website. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Kathy-Pistor/

Shards, by artist Stella Caponga, has two pieces of soda lime glass, augmented with lead. It's an example of kintsugi, as explained in her statement on her page on our website, but to me it also has elements of Canadian landscape. Compare Shards with tomorrow's feature and see if you agree. Stella's page also has other views of Shards, and her contact information. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/stella-capogna/

Maria Petrov sent us this still life "Pears on wallpaper". The light and the composition really bring out the fullness of the fruit, so you can almost touch them, almost taste them. Maybe next summer, we will be able to meet again in our markets and roadside stands. And as she says in her statement.... Well, best you follow the link to read it and find her contact information. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Maria-Petrov/

Carol Walthers' pastel, Kiss Me, has us still in Paris. Notice the passersby, not noticing, walking out of the frame. And I enjoy this: to my eye, it looks like she surprised him with the kiss. Have a look at Carol's page on our website to read her statement, and get her contact information. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Carol-Walthers/ #NJASart #njas2020 #ontarioartist #ontarioart #localartist #localart #buyart #buyartfromartists #nocommission #canadianartdaily

Herons are beautiful birds, almost otherworldly. This one, photographed by Caitlin Sabean-Untermann, is fishing in water covered with blossoms. Visit Caitlin's page on our website to read her statement and find her contact information. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Caitlin-Sabean-Untermann/

I couldn't resist having Sheep IV by Donna Greenstein right after yesterday's Prize Horse. This oil painting captures the sheep's character as well as its soft textures. Read what Donna has to say about it on her page on our website. https://newmarketjuriedartshow.ca/Donna-Greenstein/
