We have received concerns about an aggressive coyote approaching people with pets in the Citadel/Mary Hill area. BC Conservation Office has been notified. Plea...se use caution and these tips if you encounter a coyote while you are out. - Never allow pets to roam free outside, keep house cats indoors and dogs under control and on a leash at all times. - If a coyote approaches you, make yourself large, yell and throw objects at it, scare it away from yourself. - Avoid walking dogs in bushy green spaces during hours of darkness - Be aware that coyotes live/travel along the rivers and our urban green spaces and have been seen in the Citadel Heights neighbourhood frequently all season. - Never feed any wild life - If a wild animal is immobile and appears to be injured or in distress, contact the COS RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277 For more information visit https://wildsafebc.com/coyote/ See more

Saying Use your words as a behaviour management instruction is a good start, but getting involved, working through basic feelings and guiding kids through the...ir social struggles will equip them with strategies for next time. Here are some suggestions for extending the concept of behind "use your words". You can also try using my song, "Hard Feelings", from "Senses". It helps children learn about what they are feeling and coaches them through expressing their feelings. Full song/video: https://youtu.be/Wvj_M235UpA

ETA: I realize the laws differ greatly from province to province, I am discussing best practice in this post, not legal minimums, as they are just that. Minimu...ms. Also... if you read the post all the way to the end I do address "Adult bones" thanks everyone! Before I put "the bar" away... I thought I would take this opportunity, with the help of my home sick little assistant, to get this visual of just how big a child has to be to no longer require a booster seat in the car. Leslie here is 9 years old and is in grade 4. I see so many kids her size and smaller at school drop off and pickup that are not in booster seats. A belt positioning booster will lift the child into a safe position to disperse the force of the seatbelt across the strongest parts of their body, and their still developing bones. This will help to avoid internal injuries to vital organs in the event of a collision. Leslie knows her booster seat keeps her safe and no longer questions sitting in one once I explained the reasoning to her in terms of safety. We need to stop approaching it as a "baby seat" and start treating it as the life saving device it is! If you have any questions or are wondering whether your child is able to be out of a booster please don't hesitate to message myself or another CPST. We are here to help! EDIT: Wow guys I never expected this post to spread so far! Just wanted to address all the comments about adults who may still need booster seats... An adult has a fully formed skeleton that is no longer soft and spongy like a child's. This makes their bodies more equipped to be able to withstand the force of a collision or an airbag deployment. That being said most vehicles nowadays have options to adjust the drivers seat up and down or front and back, as well as move the shoulder belt up and down in order to fit the driver properly. Some even have adjustable pedals to avoid having to be so close to the airbag. This essentially is doing the same thing as a booster does on a child which is improve belt fit. Hope this info helps with any confusion! I do not authorize use of this image or post in whole or in part.
