The Vancouver Public Library is hiring for 8 digital internship positions. If you are 15-30 years of age, you can apply! The application deadline is Sunday, November 29, 2020. THE POSITIONS Children’s and Teen Services including Community Librarian work (3 positions)... Working with the Children’s and Teen Services team (CTS), you will gain skills in virtual program planning, and delivery for children, youth, and families. Working with the Community Librarian team, you will gain skills in digital program planning and delivery for patrons and communities made vulnerable by systemic factors such as racism, poverty, and housing affordability. Programming and Learning (2 positions) Working with Programming and Learning (PLG), you will gain skills in virtual program planning and delivery for adults. You will hone your project management and creative problem-solving skills in a collaborative team environment. Marketing and Communications (1 position) Working with Marketing and Communications team, you will develop skills in social media planning, scheduling/communication, and development. Would you like to learn to make your own comics and graphic novels? Comic artist, Janice Liu, will guide you through the entire process of creating a one-page comic story, from brainstorming to scriptwriting to artwork. Artists will learn new skills, develop their stories, and finish the series with their very own comic! This Comic Making Workshop series is best suited for kids and tweens aged 10-14. Award-winning author, Lindsay Wong, is the City of Richmond’s ninth annual Writer-in-Residence. From September 27 through November 27, 2020, Ms. Wong will provide advice to emerging writers through free virtual public workshops, events and conversations. Lindsay Wong is the best-selling, award-winning author of the memoir The Woo-Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug-Raids, Demons, and My Crazy Chinese Family. This memoir won the 2019 Hubert-Evans Prize for Nonfiction, was a ...finalist for the 2018 Hilary Weston Prize for Nonfiction and was featured in on CBC Radio’s Canada Reads in 2019. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Fine Arts in literary nonfiction from Columbia University. Lindsay is now based in Vancouver. Richmond’s Writer-in-Residence program is presented by the Richmond Arts Centre, Richmond Public Library and the Seniors Centre at the Minoru Centre for Active Living.
