New Vintage Theatre lost a very special contributor to our company yesterday, Steve Soucy. Steve was music director and a performer on Rock of Ages and The Last Song of the Christmas Belles and was an award winning, highly regarded composer and performer in BC and beyond. He was the loving partner to performer Julie Masi who has also graced our stages in Rock of Ages, The Black Cat Cabaret and The Last Song of the Christmas Belles. It was Steve who brought so many musicians to our company and those connections are still as strong as when he first connected us all. Our sincere condolences to Julie, Steve's children and their families and friends. Steve will be missed. Heaven just got a whole lot more fun and I am pretty sure there is a Hammond up there for him. Rest in peace, Steve.

Earlier this month our teen class filmed our last class performance of A Christmas Carol because their parents/family were not allowed into the theatre to see it live due to health restrictions. Following safe covid protocols, including our very small class sizes, just seven of them played all of the characters in Dicken's classic. To Our Amazing New Vintage Theatre Patrons- We wish to express our support for public health measures that keep our communities safe. For New Vintage Theatre, it is safety first, always. We support public health and the healthcare workers who are keeping us all safe and proudly have some of these individuals as our students, performers and theatre family members. We want to keep our mainstage performers safe and healthy.... We at have been proud of our ability to adapt to health restrictions to date, and the fact that (as far as we know) there have been zero COVID-19 transmissions in our theatre. Now, however, it's time to take another step back and pause and follow the BC Health Guidelines that outline no live performances and use of masks in our space and in our classes. While theatres have moved mountains (or seats, at least!) to keep audiences safe during the pandemic, we understand that now is not the time to gather for live performances, no matter how many restrictions are in place. Theatre has always been a vital part of a healthy community. We will always be ready to adapt our operations to meet public health recommendations, even if that means putting our immensely popular winter holiday play online instead of inside the theatre. We are all about health and safety, in a pandemic and out, even though this will take a huge financial toll on our small company. We look forward to partnering with our public health authorities to ensure we are there for you, safe as ever, when the time comes to safely offer New Vintage live shows again in 2021. It's not forever, it's just for now. In the meantime, we are happy to partner with our public health to adapt our already-stringent safety plans and prepare for performing for audiences again when the time is right.
