New Vista Society 21.02.2021

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Choon Han Kim, a decorated Korean War veteran into our care at New Vista today. Mr. Kim is a long time resident of Burnaby and joins us from one of New Vista’s senior housing sites on our main campus. With support from Fraser Health, he has chosen to reside on our 2nd floor village where culturally sensitive care and meals will be offered. Pictured with Mr. Kim are is his step-daughter, New Vista’s CEO, and Board Director Michael Chang

Looking forward to a better 2021 at New Vista with music, poetry and more vaccines coming later this week! This poem was written by one of our resident’s ancestors who was famous in Korea.

The Covid outbreak at our care home that started in early August is now over. While we feel a sense of relief, we are also deeply saddened to have lost some people in our care to this pandemic. We appreciate the patience, understanding and kindness from resident families. Our staff are still working incredibly hard to keep your loved ones safe and are closely following all PPE and infection control protocols, to reduce further risk as cases in the community grow. Mary is looking forward to moving to our new Care Home on October 31st. It offers the very best design for infection control, and has large activity areas and lounges. #newvistacare #covid19 #burnaby

New Vista is once again facing a COVID 19 outbreak in our Care Home despite huge preventative efforts from our staff and managers. We are working closely with Fraser Health officials to limit new cases. Thanks to our families for your ongoing support. The new Care Home is almost completed.

The New Vista Society thanks Burnaby’s sister city in South Korea Hwaseong for their donation of PPE to the Korean War Veteran Association and to the New Vista Care Home. The PPE will be used to prevent the spread of COVID-19 amongst senior populations. Much thanks to New Vista Board Director Michael Chang for arranging the donation who is pictured with fellow Directors Eunice Oh, and Jeffrey Yu, along with MLA Raj Chouhan, MLA Anne Kang, MP Peter Julian, and New Vista CEO Darin Froese.

The team at New Vista is getting ready for the move into our new Care Home on September 12th. Part of our preparation was to conduct a practice move to ensure our well thought out protocols work. We have engaged Health Care Relocation who have year of experience, to assist with the planning and move, thanks Cameron and Paul from HCR.

Honouring a Passionate Champion of The New Vista Society It is with much sadness that The New Vista Society joins in mourning the passing of Paul McDonell, fondly known as Mr. Burnaby. A firefighter who transitioned into politics, Paul was a great advocate for his Burnaby Community as a City of Burnaby Councillor and worked tirelessly to help the disadvantaged. Paul joined the Trustee Board of The New Vista Society in January 2009 and worked with the Society to uphold the ...mandate of founder Ernest Winch by providing guidance and support for projects to support social services for seniors. Most recently he was instrumental in helping New Vista build a new Care Home, which opens in September 2020, as well as New Vista’s involvement in several projects to enhance social housing in Burnaby. Paul’s leadership, humour and advocacy will be missed by all. We all send our condolences to his family, and the City of Burnaby for the loss of a great Councillor and humanitarian.
