The three thousand souls joined the church, and Acts 2:42-47, describes the early church's values and practices. Who or what did they value? Jesus. Thus, their values were Christ-centered values and their practices were a by-product of it.... What were the practices of the early church, and how did these impact their community? As Jesus had said, the Holy Spirit arrived on the day of Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus' resurrection. The believers spoke in tongues as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance, and the people who heard them wondered what it was. Peter then stood up and explained that what they had witnessed is a fulfillment of Prophet Joel's prophecy about the last days, which is a snapshot of world history, beginning with the Resurrection of Christ to His Revelation. Arm yourselves also with the same attitude as Christ, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin (1 Peter 4:1). Jesus is the suffering servant described by the prophet Isaiah: "He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain (Isaiah 53:3) " He was the exact opposite of humanity. He was completely humble, whereas we are proud, wanting to get our way and when we don't, we quarrel and fight (James 4:1-3).... So, the Apostle Peter is reminding the church not to follow the attitude of the world but to arm themselves with the same attitude as Christ. To die to themselves and surrender their will to God. The Paris Accord is an agreement within the UN framework agreement on climate change dealing with greenhouse-gas-emission, mitigation, adaptation and finance"; and all the countries that have signed this agreement are pledging to donate billions of dollars to save the planet. But the church has known for thousands of years that the earth was dying when God cursed the earth due to man’s disobedience in Genesis 3:17. We also know that there will be a new heaven and a new earth ...replacing this one when Jesus returns (Revelation 21:1). In fact, all creation, the entire universe, is waiting for this momentous event. (Romans 8:18-23) Apostle Peter says, "The end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert and sober" as you wait for Christ's return. So, how now should we live in the shadow of eternity?

Something happened on the cross which never has to be repeated. With what happened at the cross, sin is finally removed, defeated. God, on the cross, finally, adequately dealt with sin for all, for all time. And this is why the gospel is good news. It is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God for salvation.
