More than 360,000 Canadians experience tinnitus, the perception of noise in one’s head and/or ears that has no external sound source, and which can be occasional, intermittent or continuous (e.g. ringing, buzzing, clicking). For almost half of these Canadians, the condition is serious and greatly impacts their lives. For some, tinnitus is incapacitating. Tinnitus, both permanent and temporary, has a variety of causes, but more than 50% of cases involve some level of noise-in...duced hearing loss. Dr. Ted Venema joins us live Friday, November 20th @12:00pm to Talk about Tinnitus http://www.hearingfoundation.ca/tinnitus/
It's really the little things that make all the difference. For many kids, the magical Elf on the Shelf is a fun Christmas past time that they don't think twice about. The Elf is just an elf, right? Well, one Etsy shop has decided to customize the classic Elf on the Shelf to be more inclusive of children with special medical needs. Some of the elves have hearing aids and cochlear implants!

Did you know one of the best things you can do with used hearing aids is donate them? Partnering with the Hear4U foundation and Lions HARP program NexGen Hearing Clinicians provide hearing care to those who might otherwise not experience the gift of hearing. Our clinicians clean the donated hearing aids, check to make sure they work, replace the parts that sit in the ear with new ones and fit them onto recipients. You can participate by donating your used and functioning hearing aid at a clinic near you. https://www.nexgenhearing.com/locations/

Are your grandchildren mumbling? Age-related hearing loss occurs gradually, and some people may not be aware of it. Age-related hearing loss can affect the hearing for the high pitch sounds. High pitch speech sounds include ‘s’, ‘f’, ‘th’ and ‘sh’ and these are usually softer than other speech sounds. An inability to hear these can make speech sound muffled. Often people will say that they can hear and its others that mumble. Young children tend to have a higher pitch a...nd softer voices. This makes it harder for people with hearing loss to understand what they are saying. Untreated hearing loss can affect the special relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.
