Support for Windows XP ends next month. After the last updates that are due out shortly, Microsoft will no longer continue to provide any further security updates leaving any computers still running XP vulnerable. It may be time to consider replacing your older systems with newer and more secure ones. If you need a hand sorting this out, feel free to give us a call. We are always here to help.

How long can your business afford to be out of operation before your customers move elsewhere? Disasters are a reality that every business needs to face. Forces of nature, acts of terrorism, fires, theft and even careless (or malicious) employee actions can cause downtime that impairs day-to-day business activity. It’s a pretty well known fact that small to medium size businesses are the backbone of our economy. Another well known fact is that small to medium size businesse...s often run lean and go without basic protections against operational risks, due to lack of time, budget and staff resources. That includes disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Published figures indicate that 70 percent of these do not plan and those that do, don’t ever test their disaster recovery plans. That’s not good! Nexxus IT Solutions would highly recommend that all businesses follow these best practices: Determine your needs: identify what’s critical and what’s not. Establish a priority. Monitor risk and prevent threats that the organization might face. Engage trusted advisors Look to a solution provider to help create plans, implement solutions and monitor trends and threats. Automate where you can Automate the backup process, ensure the timely and regular backup of your systems and data. Test annually ensure your return on investment and plan viability. If you don’t have a plan we would encourage you develop one. If you have an existing plan, take the time to ensure it is viable and would meet the needs of your organization in order to ensure business continuity following a major business disruption. Review your plan on a periodic basis. The business landscape constantly evolves and so should your plan. Test you plan annually. Take some time and run through your plan in a real world test to ensure that it indeed does work. We will always be here in the event of your worst emergencies to help in any way that we can. However, the best practice is definitely a proactive approach to disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Let us help with your plan today and we will all sleep better tonight.
