Larch arabinogalactan is a prebiotic dietary fiber that is safe and effective for promoting gut motility and improving bowel function. It has been found to lower colonic pH, stimulating an environment favoring the development of beneficial bacteria, by increasing short-chain fatty acids including acetate, propionate, and most importantly, butyrate, which is a major fuel source for gastrointestinal mucosal cells and has anti-inflammatory effects. It is also a valuable adjunct...ive in immunotherapy protocols. A human research study published by the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism demonstrated that dietary intervention with arabinogalactan could increase resistance to infections. Larch arabinogalactan seems to positively influence NK cells, macrophage activities and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. A clinical study demonstrated that larch arabinogalactan supplementation reduced the incidence of common cold infections. The Association of Two Pandemics: COVID-19 and Vitamin D deficiency by Dr. Michael Traub Due to the urgent nature of the coronavirus pandemic, the association of COVID-19 and vitamin D deficiency has become an active area of research. Although the available data currently is preliminary in nature, early investigations have suggested that Vitamin D deficiency appears to be a very important risk factor for severe COVID-19 infection.... In deficiency, the goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40-60 ng/mL (100-150 nmol/L). This may require taking 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations, followed by 5000 IU/d. For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful. Risks for vitamin D deficiency include obesity, elderly, lack of sun exposure, dark skin, smoking, exposure to air pollution, and co-morbidities such as infection, cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and diabetes mellitus.
