Public Health Sudbury & Districts moving to yellow level of provincial COVID-19 response framework https://www.phsd.ca/public-health-sudbury-districts-moving/ ... Today, the Government of Ontario placed Public Health Sudbury & Districts in the Yellow-Protect category of the provincial COVID-19 response framework. Strengthened public health measures will come into effect in our service area to help control the spread of COVID-19 on Monday, November 16, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. These measures include limited hours of operations for certain settings, reduced recreational program sizes, additional enforcements and fines, and enhanced education in high-risk settings. Our case counts are at an all-time high with 42 (updated) of our 204 total cases reported in the last week alone. We are averaging about 12 high risk contacts for each case so far. These numbers combined with how stretched our public health and health care systems are, mean that stronger protection measures are needed, said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Medical Officer of Health with Public Health Sudbury & Districts. The Yellow-Protect restrictions must be accompanied by a re-commitment of everyone to the basic public health prevention measures. How this surge in cases evolves and the measures and restrictions that will be necessary to control it are in our hands. Make no mistake, our everyday actions either allow the virus to spread or allow us to contain it. We can choose wisely and dig deep, added Dr. Sutcliffe. Regardless of which provincial category we are classified in, we must assume that COVID-19 is everywhere and take necessary precautions. Keeping our communities safe and our health care, education, social services and economic fabric strong means counting on everyone to do the right thing. #Sudbury #PublicHealth #Manitoulin

Ontario is putting a pause on social circles, asking people across the entire province to now only come in close contact with those inside their household as COVID-19 cases spike to unprecedented levels. Premier Doug Ford made the announcement today and also declared new restrictions for certain businesses in three COVID-19 hotspots (Ottawa, Peel and Toronto). Ontario Revises COVID-19 Screening Guidance for Schools and Child Care to Reflect Latest Public Health Advice As a result of these changes, students and children: * with a fever or cough will still need to stay home until they consult with a health care provider and receive an alternative diagnosis, or a negative COVID-19 test. * with symptoms that are commonly associated with other illnesses, such as a runny nose or headache will be advised to stay home for 24 hours, after w...hich they can return to school or child care if their symptoms are improving. * with two or more of these symptoms will be advised to stay home until they consult with a health care provider and receive an alternative diagnosis, or a negative COVID-19 test. In addition, the symptom list for children in school and child care no longer includes abdominal pain or conjunctivitis (pink eye). *** DRIVE-IN INFLUENZA IMMUNIZATION CLINICS 2020 *** The influenza (flu) vaccine is not for COVID-19 (this vaccine is still in development) however it is important to consider getting it because: With more people getting protected by the flu vaccine there will be less burden on the health care system tasked with treating COVID-19. The flu and COVID-19 have similar symptoms. If you get sick with the flu, you will most likely also be sent for COVID-19 testing. You can reduce the need to test by getting the flu vaccine. Getting the flu can increase the risk of COVID-19 complications, if you get COVID-19 too.

Due to the significant increase of COVID-19 cases in Ontario, the opening of the Fitness Centre and Arena has been postponed. Both facilities including the Poo...l will tentatively open on October 19. The health and well-being of our residents and staff is our priority. If the numbers continue, or further restrictions are imposed by the Province and/or health officials, the reopening may be delayed. While we are not seeing many active cases in our district, we must stay the course to ensure that we continue this way. We will continue to monitor developments over the next few weeks. An update will be provided closer to the reopening date.
