This year, Laila was honoured by SOCAN Music with the Hagood Hardy Award for Excellence in Songwriting. In 2019, Laila’s eponymous release won her a JUNO (Canada’s GRAMMY) for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year.

Due to COVID or other travel restrictions you cannot make the trip and spend the holidays with them. Or Somebody who lives in Canada but has a lot of family overseas. She doesn’t normally go home over the holidays, but it’s when she misses family and food the most. Holiday Workers: Firefighters, hospital workers, taxi drivers, etc who usually have to work over the holidays so they can’t be with their families from a different part of Canada. Small business owners as well. Example: Young paramedic in Toronto who works through the holiday season and doesn’t have time to go home to Ottawa. Or maybe a Hospital worker who is avoiding contact with her parents to be safe, so you have to spend holidays alone. Or Small restaurant/business owners who need to try to stay open during the holiday and can’t go home. Whatever your story is we want to hear all about it. Dr. Robert I. MacDonald and Martin Cooper will lead the teaching, "13,000 Years of Indigenous Navigation and Settlement in the Great Lakes Watershed" live on Sa...turday 12 Sept at 3pm. Even as the Laurentide ice sheet was withdrawing over 13,000 years ago, Indigenous peoples were exploring the newly available landscape as clearly shown by archaeological evidence. The locations of settlements and the tools and technology that make up the archaeological record demonstrate superb adaptation to an environment that changed significantly and continually for thousands of years. "When we were reviewing the Indigenous music scene to curate this year's concer...t, we never could have predicted the outcome," said Tim Johnson, Celebration of Nation’s Artistic Producer. "By serendipity, good fortune, and perhaps a little skill our two choices both ended up winning 2020 JUNO Awards! LeE HARVeY OsMOND (Tom Wilson), Celeigh Cardinal and 2020 Polaris Music Prize shortlisted artist Lido Pimienta are set to share livestream performances. Celebration of Nations will take place virtually from 11-13 September in a continued commitment to supporting the vital voices of the creative and intellectual community. In this hands-on workshop participants will explore the teachings of the Medicine Wheel through the creation of a beautiful stretch bracelet.
