As winter hits and the snow flies, the Niagara falls Fire department is asking residents to keep their side walks and steps clear of snow. this allows emergency services to gain entry quicker incase of an emergency. Also if you have a hydrant, please keep it clear.

With winter settling in we must be prepared for extreme weather. We at the NFFD recommend keeping informed of approaching weather, staying indoors during extreme temperatures, dress in layers, drive only when necessary and check on people who may need assistance.
There have been 105 fire fatalities in Ontario this year, The highest it's been in 10 years! During this lockdown the NFFD urges people to check their homes for Fire safety. Follow the checklist and ensure you, and your family are safe from fire.

Responsible drinking is not just calling a cab. During the holidays drinking and cooking can be dangerous, please avoid it. Keep an eye on people who are smoking while drinking. Alcohol is a common factor in many fatal fires.
The 12 Days of Holiday Fire and CO Safety starts today! Todays tip: If you have a real tree keep the tree watered at all times, keep the tree away from ignition sources like the fire place, heaters or candles. Use approved lights.

With the children home from schools this week it would be the perfect opportunity to develop a fire escape plan for your home! Plan what to do if fire breaks out, draw a picture of your home showing all the escape routes and your meeting place. And never go back in!!
It's Carbon Monoxide Awareness week. CO is an invisible, odourless gas produced by fossil fuel appliances AKA the Silent Killer. CO symptoms mimic those of the flu. Have your appliances checked by a professional. Check CO alarms monthly. Let's stay Carbon Monoxide safe!!
This weekend as the kids are off school for the holidays it would be a perfect time to check all smoke and CO alarms. Smoke and CO alarms save lives when working properly. Smoke alarms are required on all levels, CO alarms outside every sleeping area.
