The health & well being of our members/guests is of the utmost importance to us during these uncertain times. We have made the difficult decision to cancel our March & April board meetings as well as our April general meeting. The District 9 Spring AGM has also been cancelled. We will continue to monitor guidance from the federal & provincial governments and update you as we have further information. We urge you to reach out to fellow members to see if any are in need of a...nything . . . groceries, medication, etc. If you are baking, cooking . . . make extra and give it to a neighbour/friend in need. Take this time to get out into the garden and do some initial clean up...leaves, branches, etc. Start planning new projects that you have in mind. Enjoy the spring blooms as they push their way way up through the earth...snowdrops, aconites, crocus, hellebores and daffodils. Browse through plant catalogues and order a few new presents for yourself or someone else fro the garden . . . like Veseys. Barb Blythin is putting an order in soon. Get in contact with her if you would like a catalogue. Great prices and our society gets to keep 50% of the profits. WIN WIN for all. Please keep safe & healthy. Dont forget to wash your hands! Coral? Brains? Man-eating neon fungus? Nope, just Celosia! These fun summer blooms are sure to turn heads with their flashy floral structures in a wide variety ...of vibrant colours. Find these bizzare blooms in the Trials Garden (Hendrie Park) and the Barbara Laking Memorial Heritage Garden (Laking Garden).

Vincent van Gross did not disappoint! Amazing experience at Toronto Zoo, assisting in the pollination of the Amorphophallus titanum, with cryogenically frozen p...ollen. Will be returning tomorrow with some fresh pollen from New York for the final segment. Thank you Alison for coming to experience the bloom with me! Thank you Jesse, Amanda, Amber, Amanda, Jennifer for the opportunity to work with another bloom and share my knowledge with some of the zoo staff for future blooms; to Clare for all the work I know you put in so the public could enjoy the experience; believe me, they did. To Paula for your assistance in the cryogenic freezing and thawing of the pollen! The best part is seeing people experience the plant, and of course the smell for themselves. There were lineups for several hours just to spend a few moments and take a few photos with the stinky wonder! See more

Whats that smell? For the second time at the Toronto Zoo, a corpse plant (Amorphophallus titanum) is projected to bloom in the next week! This species only ...blooms for 8-36 hours and this is the second time this species has bloomed in the GTA! Grown from seed, it can take six to ten years for a plant to produce its first flower, after which it can take several more years for it to bloom again. This plants predecessor, Pablo Pe-ew caso, bloomed back in September 2018. Based on the current growth in comparison to Pablo, we anticipate the bloom to occur next Wednesday. However, the Amorphophallus titanum can be unpredictable and given that this would be an early bloom for this particular plant, anything can happen. The Greenhouse is currently closed to the public, however, stay tuned for growth updates and if our Greenhouse hours change.
