On this Canada Day 153 I am choosing to reflect and educate myself on what we are celebrating and the communities that continue to suffer. I am thankful for where I live and the environment I grew up in. And for ME, Im blessed to live in this country. Canada has given my family and I every opportunity to flourish. For that I am so thankful, and I too celebrate the freedom I experience. But that privilege is not experienced by everyone. I’m not condemning anyone’s Canada da...y celebrations, that’s not my place, nor the point of this post. I just encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the families and communities that suffered (and still do) for a colonized Canada. Today isn’t a day of celebration for everyone. Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work. -Ralph Marstom #osteopathy #pelvichealth #periodproblems #growthmindset #staytuned #youdontwanttomissthis

Inhale. When 200 years of being granted freedom" means that existing in some counties after dark is a crime. When 60 years after winning equality means tha...t a simple traffic stop might be the last moment of your life. Uprisings aren’t about isolated incidents. Oppression is a system. One that we are all complicit in. Inequality is a feature of our economy and our society. If you are unaware of this reality, chances are you are coming from a place of higher privilege than you realize. Ripped from their land, owned, worked to death, and then given release into a new form of classist slavery. Their cries were never silenced, just swept into the isolated corners that were planned in city development offices. When the education system, police department, mayoral office, governors office, senate, congress, judicial system are stacked against you, what freedom exists? Are your lungs burning yet? When the president calls a group of neo-nazis very good people and his opposition is someone who has a not so recent history of troubling discriminatory policy... your options are limited. These are the politics of subduing and oppressing. There is no choice or voice in a vote. Only token placation. When your choice-less vote counts even less due to malicious gerrymandnering, it can feel like your being suffocated. When a sub-economy of for-profit prisons (you read that right) exists due to a judicial system that operates in a racially disproportionate manner, your oppression isn’t a choice it is a feature. When clean drinking water is too expensive of a fix for your entire community, your life once again has a price tag. When a cop kneels on your legs, while another kneels on your chest,t as another kneels on the base of your neck as you lay face first on asphalt, you are being suffocated. When white citizens tell you that your friend is dead because he didn’t listen to authorities you are being choked. If you do not understand what is happening in our world there are resources available everywhere. It is a choice and privilege to remain uneducated on the topic. The black community does not have this choice. They are taught how to survive and maneuver a more dangerous life from an early age. The colour of their skin is a target. Their skin is a disadvantage by the design of their community, state and country. Now exhale. Breath shouldn’t be a privilege but it is. Black lives matter. It’s time for self-reflection on how we behave and how we are all complicit in the machinations of societal oppression and discrimination. Now is not the time to focus on the damage caused by a few hundred within the crowds of millions. Weep with them, fight alongside them. If you think your life matters this should matter to you. (Photo is of a painting by my cousin Nick Sider) *I’ll never pretended to know the full extent of what this oppression feels like or what it is to be black. I’m just trying to help bring people to a closer place of understanding.

Today is International Midwives Day! I sadly don’t have any photo’s of our wonderful midwife team - Jenny,Heidi, and Isabelle of @niagara.midwives. However, I thought I would share this photo from the home birth. Without midwives, opportunities and experiences like this are not possible! Compassion and understanding emanated from these women at every stage! Through all the excitement and moments of fear, we couldn’t have done it without you all!!! Thank you to all Midwives ...for the beautiful, and miraculous work you do supporting women and families! @ontariomidwives @niagara.midwives @renaissancemidwifery @lincoln_midwives #midwife #internationalmidwivesday #compassionatecare #homebirth #pelvichealth #csectionrecovery #thejourney
