We appreciate all of our crossing guards in Niagara, and in the village crossing at stop signs and stop lights is included in our curriculum. Not sure if you know or not, we do have working stop lights, in the miniature village so that our police officer is teaching our JK/SK to grade 5 how to properly cross the street and be safe.
Great job everyone
Please be careful
Did you know that up to 35% of drownings in Canada occur between late Fall - early Spring when people did not intend to enter the water. If you fish, snowmobile..., cross country ski, go for walks, or skate on frozen lakes, ponds, or canals etc. then this 3m45s video could provide you with important information to keep you safe or save your life. No ice is safe ice. Be cautious on and around frozen water.
Good job. Great way to get the message out.
Our first school in today and we are ready to go, everything sanitized, distanced and cleaned, even our pedal cars. It was great seeing those little faces again, and so excited. Today is a good day

Welland Fire and Emergency Services is asking you to "be fire safe in the kitchen". In today's Fire Prevention Week video, Welland's Director of Fire Prevention... Matt Richardson talks about the importance of keeping combustibles away from the stove and out of the oven. Check out https://www.welland.ca/Fire/FireSafetyKitchen.asp for more great tips on how to "serve up fire safety in the kicthen."
Just take a minute to listen to Mike, and be safe
Enjoy tonight and keep safe
Thought it was time to catch everyone up to date about the Safety Village. As you all realize at this time there are no class trips to the village, so it has given us some time to do a lot of catching up. We did have a lawnmower donated by a gentleman in N.F. and we really appreciate his support. We have been pulling up old flooring and replacing it. Painting classrooms and working on our curriculum, so that it is more hands on, so we have been busy. One of our main projec...ts was our donor pyramid in the miniature village. With age the tiles were starting to come off, so we removed them all, sanded down the pyramid and sealed it then cleaned up the tiles and glued them back on. I am attaching a couple of pictures. It looks great and we have room for a few more donors to be added. If your interested just let me know.So I hope everyone is taking care of themselves and are safe. I will be posting more often now just to keep you up to date on all that is happening at the village. See more
Would anyone have a used lawnmower that I can buy for the village. Niagara College has been wonderful for many years cutting our grass out the front and in the miniature village, but with a reduction in their staff covering all the grounds, I would like to cut the grass at the back and they will still cut the front. Staff at the College have always been so supportive of the village and I would like to help them out. You can just leave a message Office 905-714-9333, Thank you. Keep safe and hopefully we will see your babies back in the village in the new school year.
Hello everyone. This is coming from a very quiet Safety Village. We have had to cancel our Emergency Services Community Safety Day schedule for June 6th, and want to thank all of the services and organizations that confirmed they would attend. The event will be back in 2021. Right now we are pretty well in limbo until we hear more from the Province. We recognize our schools will not be back in until the fall of 2020. We are taking the time to review all of our curriculum, a...nd I am really excited about the changes. We will be setting up our 4th classroom to better accommodate our JK/SK's, and our day cares and Montessori schools that come in. It will be a total hands on teaching environment for the little ones. We have also some changes for our grade 3 program. I will keep in touch, as time moves on, as we are exploring other options, for our families to come to the Village. We truly miss our students, teachers and parents. Stay safe everyone. See more
I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy. I am in the office of the Safety Village pretty well every day, as the office work continues. We have schools booked every day from the lst of April until the end of June 2020. We of course are very aware, that these bookings will more than likely be cancelled, but will wait until the announcement will be made, which will more than likely this week. Just wanted all the teachers to know we will miss you and all the wonderful little faces coming into the village, but we know things will get better eventually. We have been using this time to update our curriculum, with more hands on in our classrooms. We have also changed our classroom set up. So I will continue to post as we move forward through this difficult time. Take care everyone.
From all of us here at the Niagara Safety Village, and to all of you and your families, we wish you a Very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2020. Please be safe over this holiday season. See you in the New Year
We would like to congratulate Mike Atkins on his new position in January. Mike taught in the Fire Classroom here in the village from 2013 to 2017. He was great to work with, and totally enjoyed teaching all the students coming in. Of course this position was part time. He was then hired by Norfolk County Fire Dept, as a Fire Prevention Officer and I know in talking with him he totally enjoyed his job, but was away from his family quite a bit. Well, Welland Fire and Emergency Services have hired Mike as a Fire Prevention Officer starting in January. He is back home, and I know he will do a great job for Welland Fire, and it is nice to have him back in Niagara. All the best to you and your family Mike and we will see you soon.
We are back into our routine today, with our school from yesterday re-booking for later this month. Thursday we are heading to the Peel Safety Village to meet with their Executive Director and Police Officers to observe their Youth Cyber Safety Academy program for grade 5's. They have been offering this program for a few years now, and it certainly is a success. We will be looking at our curriculum for all grades over the winter months, to make sure we are offering what safety programs are needed to keep our children safe. Stay tuned. To all teachers, we only have 5 days open to book in from the end of March to the end of June. Thank you to all our schools for your support.
PLEASE BE ADVISED, WE ARE HAVING TO CANCEL OUR ONE DAY AT THE VILLAGE, THAT WAS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9TH, SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE
