Please advise any less-than-technically-savvy friends or relatives that there's a new scam involving "Microsoft representatives" who promise to upgrade them to Windows 7 for only $49. Basically they install Windows XP over top of Windows XP, change the background and install a dormant virus that will activate at a later date. So far two of our clients have fallen pray to these scammers.

While Microsoft is discontinuing support for Windows XP in April, which means that Windows Updates will no longer work, it doesn't mean that people must immediately switch to Windows 7 (or the struggling Windows 8). We suggest that clients switch to Google Chrome, if they're concerned, as Google is still supporting Windows XP.

Microsoft's spring Windows 8.1 update has been reviewed by Ars Technica and it seems as though, despite this upcoming update, keyboard & mouse users may still continue to purchase Windows 7 based systems.

If anyone needs an iPad 2, the 16GB model is on sale at Walmart this weekend for $325, the cheapest we've seen them yet!
