The Holidays can oftentimes bring about financial stress as we try to extend ourselves a wee bit too much in order to put "presents under the tree" For fun, we asked our staff to come up with a list of things you can give as gifts that won't break the bank along with some basic spending advice to keep you in the black this Christmas. Without further Ado, here is our Nice Xmas List:... 1. Board game. For kids 10 and under (and even over) this makes an excellent and cost-effective gift. It also ensures that you will all be spending time together. 2. Time Coupons.You can make up some coupons in Word for time together (one could be playing a board game), and a bunch of other coupons for non-material stuff and offer these up as Gifts to those you love. 3. Cardboard. Yes. Moving boxes. $20 will get you plenty. Get some duct tape. At first they’ll think what a lousy gift...but building a fort together is lots of fun - put some Xmas lights in there too. They will sleep in there, have snacks in there and the time spent building it together will make lasting memories that money just can't buy. 4. Video game that develops problem solving skills. Key phrase: develops problem solving skills. Just make sure to research a game where you use your egg noggin. Mine craft is great for building. Tomb raider is great for puzzle solving. Dance Dance will have the whole family learning how to dance (or sing)...Rock Band can be super fun - Other than drums you won’t learn an instrument but it just might spark a musical interest! 5. Chocolate, duh. Maybe have a baking day where you each are "lead chef" with a recipe and then package up the final results for gift-giving! 6. Be Creative and never underestimate the small things. A staff member once received a mason jar with 100 things their partner loved and appreciated about him written on post-it notes. Best gift he ever received. Cost? Less than $5. Value: Priceless. 7. Resist Impulse Buying. We know, it's hard at this time of year. Look over your finances and set a total amount per person. And stick to it!
