Happy birthday to this strong, smart, patient and kind-hearted soul who I am so lucky to call my best friend and business partner! Kate, you challenge me to grow and have never missed a beat being there for me when I've needed you. Today may be your special day, but you are special all 365 days of the year (I know... pretty sappy ). Here's to another year of leaping off cliffs and learning how to fly, and hopefully some soaring too .

Through practice we develop better awareness of our surroundings and ourselves and this has a profound impact on our lives. By observing self, body, thoughts, surroundings, circumstances, moments and others for simply what they are we gain clarity and a better understanding of reality. We are then able to better navigate life and make decisions because it's no longer a fabrication of what we wish to see something as, or what we are striving for, or what we are trying to change, or fight against the natural current of. The consistency of practice "fills" us up so that we have ways to deal with and adapt to those things that are out of our control gracefully. #adaptation #energy #mindfulness #practicemakesprogress #awareness #ability #decisionmaking #yogaisgoodforthesoul #nicheregina

What does it mean to be 'grounded', to be 'mindful'? And how do we get to this place of awareness? Just like any quality or habit you want to change, it takes intention and practice. Whatever we practise grows stronger. Therefore if we continue to do the same things, because we are used to them and they are comfortable, if we continue to react and behave in ways that don't serve us, we get more of the same and those behaviors and attitudes grow stronger. Alternatively, i...f we do the work to be more awake, more present, more thoughtful and caring to ourselves, eachother, and the things we absolutely need like our health and the health of our planet - over time, that is who we become. We develop new habits that serve us and eachother, a new mindset that changes our perspective on everything. We become stronger, steadier, more attentive, curious, and resilient, and able to see the lessons and room to grow from ALL our experiences. We take responsibility and develop responses instead of reactions. This process is a practice. It does not happen over night. This is work we do through our life. We do this each time we sit or step on to the mat - yoga practice is a practice of discipline and commitment. Over time this shift follows us off our mat, into our lives, and ripples out into the world. #bethechange #dothework #whatwepracticegrowsstronger #wakeup #nicheregina See more

Because there is such an intriguing variety of twists, you might guess that twists provide an abundance of benefits. And they do. There are physiological benefits to the circulatory system and internal organs, structural benefits to the musculoskeletal system, and focusing benefits to your consciousness. In the case of twisting, not only do you maintain the normal length and resilience of the soft tissues, but you also help to maintain the health of the discs and facet joints... (the small pair of joints on the back of the spine where each two vertebrae overlap). The organs are compressed during a twist, pushing out blood filled with metabolic by-products and toxins. When we release the twist, fresh blood flows in, carrying oxygen and the building blocks for tissue healing. So from the physiological standpoint, twists stimulate circulation and have a cleansing and refreshing effect on the torso organs and associated glands. -Exert from Yoga Journal by Julie Gudmestad #twist #yoga #soakandsqueeze #yogabinds #ardhamatsyendrasana #yogajournal #yogaisforeveryone #healthbenefits #healthylifestyle #nicheregina

Our habits make up who we are to a large degree. What you do with yourself day by day, the little things, will have more affect then that which is only done once in a while. There is power in consistent, steady action in the direction you want to go. #consistencyiskey #healthyhabbits #dailypractice #dothework #choosehappiness #steady #openheart #backbending #frontbodypose #ustrasana #nicheregina

Giving time and space to find clarity and having a relationship with yourself is so important. Feeling your body, mind and soul will help you remember who you are deep inside. When you show up for yourself each day, you can move through the challenges of life a little more gracefully. #limitless #creative #beautiful #strong #hopeful #heartopen #frontbodypose #natarajasana #dancerspose #showupforyourself #dothework

This year has brought challenges, blessings and most certainly change. We have all had to make sacrifices, adjustments, and find strength through hardships, yet despite this we have also seen incredible acts of kindness, empathy, compassion and love. We have had to adapt and be resilient almost constantly to the changing landscape of our world. While many of us are ready to say goodbye to 2020, this 'shaking up' has resulted in our own personal awakenings and transformati...ons, many of which have been a blessing in disguise. As a collective we have also seen massive shifts towards positive change. This year has left us considering and re-evaluating what is important and worth investing in and contributing to. We feel inspired and excited for the possibilities ahead and not a moment goes by that we don't feel incredibly grateful for everything that has happened to bring us to where we are now. We are ready to welcome in the new year, but we also acknowledge and appreciate the growth and change this past year has brought. See you all in 2021! #blessingsindisguise #lossandgain #seasonsofchange #pheonixrising #powerofcommunity #nicheregina #happynewyear #newyearnewintentions

Most of us don’t even think twice about setting up on the couch and crushing a couple hours of shows or movies. When it comes to sitting with just ourselves in quiet reflection and observation this, for most, is a struggle all of its own. It is a practice, like anything else that is becoming increasingly more important. Simply put, restorative yoga is about finding comfort in your body as it naturally is and nourishing the nervous system with rest, rather then deep stretchin...g, stimulation or exercise. A restorative yoga sequence is made up of usually only about five or six poses. These poses are supported by props that allow you to completely relax. The purpose is not to find intensity in the body or put any stress on it but rather to find comfort in the shape. This is deeply healing to injured or over stressed, tonic (tight or holding tone) areas of our body and being. Postures are held passively between 5-20 min and include very gentle twists, seated forward folds, gentle supported backbends and inversions. Our parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated when we relax into poses, which promotes a relaxation response and reduces stress in our bodies. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for slowing your heart rate and breath and increasing blood flow to your vital organs, among other things. As it becomes activated, it improves our ability to rest, digest, rebuild and repair. #restorativeyoga #replenish #rebuild #nourishyourbody #comfort #aseasonalshift #learn #beopen

We are looking at this next period of time as an opportunity to slow down and cultivate mindfulness. We are yogis, the goal is to be flexible not just in our body but in our mind. Winter is naturally a time of reflection and regeneration. At this time we are also experiencing massive change, trauma and destabilization as a collective and a planet. Our role is to respond, not react. We can see this as a time to look at our beliefs and attitudes, and to open ourselves to a... new world and new reality. Our intention at Niche is to evolve ourselves and the way we interact with the world. Meditation, rest and the intention of shifting perspective is needed right now. We can, in this way create our own form of stability for ourselves and eachother. Over the next month we will explore a different way of looking at our yoga practice by surrendering to the natural energy of this season. We are excited and think this will be an interesting and healing month for everyone, including ourselves. We encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and be open to the possibilities! #changeisinevitable #newcomfortzone #strengthinvulnerability #challengingbeliefs #evolvingwellness #shiftingperspectives #slowthefuckdown See more

We can bring more deliberate focus inward at times where things are seemingly more chaotic outside. We have the choice, through the physical and mental intensity of practise, to cleanse the impurities of our body, mind, thought and soul. Showing up and doing the work is always something within our control. #bodyisavessel #choices #thingswecancontrol #comfortwithdiscomfort #yogapractice #calmyourmind #nicheregina
