I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on a coffee table build I’ve been picking away at, but am shifting gears and getting started on a challenging built-in that I’m very excited to start pulling together. This one is taking all my brain power and will def be pushing me in the best of ways. Currently, as I sit in the shop, I’m surrounded by walnut and that makes me feel very good. Happy Friday folks!

Blackened accent tables with hand shaped tops. The legs are made of oak and joined into hickory tops by wedged mortise and tenon. These have been sitting on the sidelines for a little while and it felt like the perfect time to squeeze them in between projects. These tables are for sale. Free local delivery in the Fredericton region or shipping available (shipping extra). Dimensions: 16 x 13 x 23

Putting the finishing touches on a couple of accent tables I’ve had sitting on the sideline for some time. Stoked to share the results of these little cuties in the coming days.

I always try to treat spoon carving as an exercise where I just allow myself to fully surrender to the creative flow. I never have spoon shapes pre-planned when I begin. I don’t have templates that I use. I’ll just grab some offcuts I’ve got lying around the shop and start drawing shapes on them and then start removing wood. It’s certainly a process that I find valuable as too often I find myself overthinking many aspects of building furniture and the same is very true when i...t comes to songwriting for me. Most often the magic we harness inside ourselves just needs to be unleashed without judgement and we often need to surrender to that and allow the flow to flow and not be so hard on ourselves. Easier said than done... These spoons were from my recent holiday sale. I’ll have another batch coming soon that will a part of a limited home decor sale in the coming months.

Blackened salvaged ash and brass stools. The ash in these stools I salvaged from a kitchen renovation at work. It was the old doors, drawer fronts and panelling from the kitchen we were tearing down and remodelling. This wood was practically destined for the landfill and in my eyes it just seemed a little crazy to throw away so much beautiful wood. The stretcher holding the footrest and the back leg together is a solid 5/8 brass rod. This was my first time incorporating meta...l into my furniture and so my first time working with brass. I absolutely love brass and have been dreaming of working with it for some time. Scoring this ash certainly seems a little serendipitous as I’ve been wanting to do a blackened ash and brass combo for a little while and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a go on these stools with this wood. Ultimately, it feels really good to give this wood, not only a second life, but a third and if I’ve done my work right hopefully they will serve their purpose as a place to sit for years to come.
