Here are 5 of the hottest trends when it comes to a headshot that will get you noticed in all the RIGHT ways! 1 Take it outside - Your headshot should be a reflection of your unique personality and tastes. Have your photo taken in a trendy cafe or against an interesting architectural feature. A skilled portrait photographer can make sure to capture a quality image in any locale! 2 Monochrome - If you want a modern and sophisticated headshot, a classic black wardrobe aga...inst a clean backdrop with stellar lighting is going to be your go-to. 3 Get the VIP treatment - Put your best face forward and have your hair and makeup professionally done. Your makeup should be a little heavier for the camera than you may be used to, a skilled artist will know how to accentuate your features best. 4 Multiple looks - Get the most out of your headshot session by bringing several different outfits along. Got a conference coming up? Include an outfit that's a bit more ‘cocktail hour’. Speaking at the upcoming employee wellness event? Go for something that's more casual and approachable. 5 Forget the filters - Give your profile pic an instant professional infusion and pitch those filters! Natural lighting and features are always the best way to go. Remember, you are not a cat You dedicate so much of your time and energy building a successful career. Why shouldn't your headshot reflect the kind of quality service you provide every day?

I became a mom for the first time 13 years ago. I received all sorts of beautiful, well-intentioned gifts at my baby shower and among them was an adorable blue beanie that read ‘Instructions Not Included'. Naturally, I packed it in my hospital bag for my fresh little newborn to wear for his first trip home. The uncomfortable accuracy of that little phrase would only sink in about a week later when I was surviving on very little sleep and struggling to understand why my ...little boy always seemed hungry despite spending (what felt like) every waking moment with him at my breast. Motherhood does not come with instructions. I share this little story because it's now, 13 years and 3 kids later, and there have been countless triumphs and losses. But I'm only just beginning to truly appreciate how much motherhood has given me. I know that if it hadn't been for all the uncomfortable struggles of figuring out how to be a mother I wouldn't be the resilient, strong woman I am today. I know that if it hadn't been for wanting to be the example to my children of a woman who can build the life she dreams for herself and her family, I wouldn't have had the courage to strike out on my own and start my business. And whether you have 1 child or 5, adopted, conceived or fostered, expecting your first baby or grandchild, I know that you've experienced your own struggles and scars on your journey through motherhood. But Mama, you also possess a beautiful strength and unwavering courage that you might never have discovered otherwise. "Something will grow from all you are going through. And it will be you." Celebrating all that you are and will become - Happy Mother's Day! See more

Do you want to know the first rule when it comes to your headshot? There are no rules when it comes to your headshot!! The best headshots are the ones that reflect how you'd like to be seen in a particular role, position, organization or industry.... With wardrobe, styling, expression and posing your headshot can speak volumes for you! 1 Casual wardrobe, relaxed posing and soft expression or smile - you are approachable, cooperative and friendly 2 Business attire, more serious expression, looking directly into the camera, strong shoulders, body leaning forward - you are ambitious, outgoing, professional and a natural leader 3 Dramatic lighting and edit, laughing or looking off camera - you are creative, willing to take risks and break the mould Find an experienced photographer who will work with you to land the right mood and style for your headshots. #ottawaphotographer #ottawaphotography #ottawaportraitphotography #portraitphotographerottawa #portraitphotographyottawa #ottawaheadshots #headshotsottawa #personalbrandingottawa #ottawapersonalbrandingphotography #barrhaven #barrhavenbusiness #mybarrhaven #barrhavenlocal #barrhavenlocalbusiness

It's Portrait Master accreditation season again and I'm going through some of my past work for possible submissions. Top photographers and educators from around the world will judge these images against a professional standard for expression, posing, composition, styling, lighting, technique, post-production and storytelling But I'm curious what you see? Which ones are your favourites?

18 years ago, on a day not unlike today, this guy took me skating on the canal. We had been out together a few time before but something felt different this time. As we skated together we talked about everything - what we wanted out of life, places we wanted to explore, what sort of dog we hoped to have one day - and something sort of just clicked for me. We didn’t share our first kiss until a few days later but even before that moment, I knew he was the guy for me. ... He is the best decision I’ve ever made

As many of you know firsthand, managing kids in virtual school while also fulfilling our own work commitments is more than challenging. It’s downright exhausting and not sustainable. But several times a day I check in with each of my kids to see how they are getting along in their work. And every time I do I witness teachers on the other side of their screen who are giving so much of their time and energy to make sure my kids feel heard and understood. I see how much eff...ort they are putting in to make sure virtual school is engaging and effective. Many of them with less-then-optimal technology and children of their own to care for. The situation is so far from ideal its laughable. But imagine how much worse off we’d be without all the incredible teachers who continue to show up each day with a positive attitude to encourage our kids to carry on? Teachers - I am so incredible grateful for all that you do! Imported from image metadata: it's not where you are in life, it's who you have by your side that matters. ------------ See more

What a morning! Looks like Santa thought these kids were pretty good this year! As a mom, it was a gift to see these four so happy and full of joy today. It feels like it’s been a while coming. Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas spent with those you love!

And the mother thought to herself: "I shall wrap all the presents while the children are still in school!" Best laid plans... ... I would pay $3,589,362 to anyone willing to wrap all my children's Christmas gifts. Happy Christmas Eve!

Four months ago, my husband broke his leg. We were enjoying a short family getaway to celebrate our 15 year anniversary when an innocent fall ended up shattering his tibia. He was immediately admitted to hospital because he would require surgery. After a week in the hospital he finally came home but ended up being re-admitted a week later due to a complication from the pain medication he was prescribed.... What felt like a hard year suddenly got so much harder. For a month my husband was a shell of himself. So consumed with his own pain and managing basic daily tasks that all the responsibility of running our home fell to me. And rightfully so. It's not an overstatement to say that it was the most difficult month of my whole entire life. I survived by the grace and love of so many friends and family. But also by reminding myself constantly of two very important things: 1. Things will get better 2. I CAN do hard things. Another lockdown was announced a few days ago. For many of us life won't change too much. But for others, this lockdown may feel like despair on top of an already very difficult year. But if 2020 has taught us anything - We CAN do hard things. If you need help, please seek it. If you can help, please offer it. Stay strong and healthy everyone!
