We get asked about whether clients should break their current mortgage a lot. It comes down to runnning the numbers through different scenarios and checking breakage penalties. It does often make sense if you have room in your home equity and are carrying unsecured debt and can be a great way to recover cash flow in your budget. Have mortgage questions- give me a call 905-512-6818

Effective this week, it gets a little easier to buy a house or refinance. On Saturday, BMO and CIBC shaved 15 basis points off their posted 5-year fixed rates. That’s enough to drop the benchmark 5-year posted rate to 4.79%. Time to refinance- give us a call 905-512-6818.

Quote: be confident interest rates will be low for a long time: end quote unusual uncertainty = unusually clear about the future path of interest rates ... says the BoC,see below . . #mortgagerates #canadianmortgagetrends #homeowner #bankofcanada #newsrelease Posted @withregram @mortgageproscan Very interesting and incredibly strong message from Tiff Macklem, Governor of the Bank of Canada this morning: Our message to Canadians is that interest rates are very low, and they are going to be there for a long time. We recognize that Canadians, Canadian businesses are facing an unusual amount of uncertainty, and so we have been unusually clear about the future path for interest rates: If you’ve got a mortgage or if you are considering to make a major purchase [] you can be confident that interest rates will be low for a long time. This precise and unambiguous messaging from the Governor is good to see. An excerpt of his press conference can be found attached below (Originally posted on the @BNNBloomberg twitter account: https://bit.ly/3gZPK6P) CMHC's messaging about the dangers of increased indebtedness appear to be completely contradictory to the BoC Governor seemingly encouraging additional confidence in the cost and availability of credit. Perhaps it is time to implement the uncoupling of the bank's 5 year rate from the stress test, as was initially announced (then subsequently indefinitely postponed) for April 6. - Paul Taylor, President and CEO of @MortgageProsCan Video via @bnnbloomberg Twitter --------------------------------------------------------------- Find your local mortgage broker to help you secure your mortgage today: http://findmeabroker.ca #mortgagebrokers #mortgages #canadianeconomy #canadianhousing #mortgagelender #mortgagerates #mortgagehousing #canada #bankofcanada

Bank of Canada just dropped another 50bps on the overnight rate making it 0.25 It is unclear whether this will translate into Bank prime rates of 2.45% which would directly affect variable rate mortgages-fixed rates not so much. Stay tuned next week to hear about further mortgage market developments.
