Home from an awesome weekend away and back to regularly scheduled programming Old Nicole would’ve been a hot mess today. See, Sunday is my dedicated afternoon of meal planning, shopping and prep for the week. Sunday is my planning day for my work week and my family stuff. Sunday is MY day to get ready for the week. It used to be that if something messed with my Sunday I would let it mess with my week. I’d be a disorganized, slightly frazzled, excuse making human. But since ...I changed my habits, all that has changed too! Instead of sleeping til the kids had to get up for school (we are all pretty tired lol), I purposely got up an hour ahead knowing full well it would make all the difference. Coffee & Journal (& Planning which should’ve been Sunday) quiet time Got kids off to school Worked out Showered Appointment Meal Plan/Groceries til Wed<< should’ve been Sunday Meal Prep<

#selfcaresunday Do you ever have those days where you feel helpless, overloaded, or unappreciated..when dragging yourself out of bed requires a ridiculous amount of determination? Most of us do, from time to time, but if you feel like this often you may be on the road to burnout. It is a problem I hear about fairly frequently when I first meet clients, and I have definitely experienced it myself. Burnout is a gradual process. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it can creep u...p on you. The signs and symptoms are usually subtle at first, but become worse as time goes on. You may be on the road to burnout if: * Every day is a bad day. * Caring about your work or home life seems like a total waste of energy. * You’re exhausted all the time. * The majority of your day is spent on tasks you find either mind-numbingly dull or overwhelming. * You feel like nothing you do makes a difference or is appreciated. The good news is, there are positive steps you can take to deal with overwhelming stress and get your life back into harmony. One of the most effective is to reach out to others. Social contact is a great solution and talking face to face with a good listener is one of the fastest ways to calm your nerves and relieve stress. The person you talk to doesn’t have to be able to fix your stress...they just have to be a good listener, someone who will just listen attentively without becoming distracted or expressing judgment. Try reaching out and sharing with those closest to you, or if appropriate being more sociable with your coworkers. A big one is making an effort to limit your contact with negative people. This can be more draining than you realize and can make a HUGE difference to your mindset. Other great ideas to try are looking hard to find some value in your work, or if that doesn’t work, take some time off. Set boundaries. Take a daily break from technology. Nourish your creative side. Set aside relaxation time. Get plenty of sleep. Make exercise a priority. Support your mood and energy levels by eating a healthy diet. We all have our moments where we feel done but if we can recognize the signs, we can deal with them sooner...and hopefully avoid total burnout.
